Hi everyone,

I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I haven't been around for months. Since I last posted, I quit my job, moved to Los Angeles, and started business school. I don't really have any free time anymore (except for right now - I have class in 30 minutes), but I wanted everyone to know that I'm still alive and will lurk on the boards whenever I get the chance.

Hopefully some of the old timers are still around and will remember me!

Hey! I hope it's all going well for you. A few months ago, you mentioned that Anderson was one of your options... is that where you're at now?

Hi everyone!

Glad to see that people still remember me. To answer some of your questions, I still weigh about the same as I did the last time I posted, maybe 5 pounds more, but still sitting comfortably in a medium t-shirt and size 30 pants. As for where I ended up going to school, I am indeed at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. I really love it here, but the work is pretty difficult. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting in the business school library right now about to start a monster finance assignment that is probably going to take me a few days. My weekends are pretty nonexistent right now, although I am happy to say that I haven't missed a home football game all season.

Anyway, I'll check in from time to time to check out this post and any others that look interesting.

Ciao!

Don C.

Good to see you around Don C. My brother got a BBA from York University here in Toronto and he has a great job working for General Mills Canada. Hopefully after you graduate you can do just as well!

Welcome back Don Corpuzzi, one of my favorite members on the board! Congrats on grad school. I think last time we talked I was about to take the GMAT exam. Currently I got accepted into the same college where I did my undergrad (the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX which is about an hour north of Austin). I'm taking 8 hours this semester and having the time of my life. However, with work and school I have been a lot busier and can relate to the lack of leisure time!

9-1 UCLA against undefeated and top ranked USC at the LA Coliseum on December 3rd. You're not gonna miss that game are you Don Corpuzzi?

Good luck and good skill in b-school! It will be demanding and rewarding.

Wow, this really isn't all that relevant, but it was pretty cool to open this post and see only familiar names in here. I'm not around much anymore either, so it was good to see who's still around. So hi to all you people I haven't spoken to in months!

Definitely going to the USC game. The UCLA Anderson School of Management does a joint tailgate with the USC Marshall School of Business and they're expecting over 1,000 at our tailgate. It'll be a tough game but hopefully we'll pull it out.

Irishman - congrats on getting in to b-school. I knew you could do it! Nice to hear that someone else is suffering alongside me in this journey to an MBA. Are you working as well as going to school? I could never do that. Not enough hours in a day.

Thank you and congrats to you as well! Yes unfortunately I'm working. I used to work about 4 days a week but now with a 10 page research paper that's due the last Wednesday of this month that I've yet to begin, I'm cutting my days back to only working 3 times a week. As an undergrad I took more classes and had more leisure time. I take less classes as a grad student and have less time. Go figure!

The last Wed of this month is also the last day of this month, the 30th. Is that what you meant?

I tell yeah - a 10pp paper, due the 30th, I'd've started on the 28th and still aced it.

When I was in grad school, not only did we need to pass our classes and all, but, we had to take a Comprehensive Exam at the end that covered all our basic coursework throughout the entire program.

There were people studying MONTHS ahead of time to prepare for it.

For something so important, I gave it 4 DAYS to prepare instead of two. Yeah, of course I passed it just fine. And it's not like I finished reading any of those boring-ass textbooks, either.

I might as well continue being off-topic with another story:

My "technique" didn't work as well all the time in undergrad, though -- but, there were some classes I attended only once or twice all year, never having read the book, that I still passed:

I was a computer wiz (geek/dork/etc) in high school, even to the point that I was correcting the teacher now and then.

Of course, college was tougher - but I was too busy "enjoying the experience" that I couldn't be bothered going to all my classes. For CompSci, I went like 3 times in the beginning of the semester, and never went back. [Disclaimer: I do NOT condone this behaviour!!] When it came time for the final, I asked some girl in my dorm when it was -- cuz I had no idea, having never gone! She wasn't in my class, but, took the same course. I figured, good enough. I went to her final exam, took the test, and since I didn't recognize anyone there at all, I wrote my prof's name on the top saying this was for his class.

Go figure, a few days later, I get called to his office. Cuz apparently he found my exam pushed under his office door, and, upon reviewing it, the computer programming code question was written out so perfectly that he actually accused me of cheating!!!!

I go there, and tell him: listen -- I know how to write code, and, knowing that that was worth a majority of the test, I did that part first. Rather than rushing thru it at the end like everyone else probably did.

(I'm smawt! I can handle tings!)

Well, in the end, good thing I convinced him. And I never lied or cheated -- I actually was able to pass the entire course without attending or studying for it.

But maybe that's just me....

Fine example you are for all the young BB'ers who are still at school.

Btw, what age are you when you start 'grad school'?
And what age do you start to attend college?

For us, grades don't matter. They only matter for the people going into investment banking, which I'm not doing. So basically, we have to get a 3.0 GPA to graduate. They will only give a B- or lower to the bottom 10% of the class. So as long as you can beat a handful of people in your class, then you're fine. I'm lost in accounting but I'm still in the top half of the class (barely). And in some of the other subjects where I really don't have time to study for, I'm in the bottom half of the class (below the mean) but still ahead of a good 40-45% of my classmates, safely within B range.

But undergrad IS different. You can fail out. I don't recommend Geoff's method of studying for undergrad. Save that stuff for grad school (unless you're going to law school or med school...in that case, get ready to work).

Hi everyone. My other computer crashed so I'm using an old one and found that I still have this site bookmarked. I thought I'd see how everyone was doing. I just learned about plaw. I was very saddened to hear that he passed but I was very impressed by the outpouring of love from the board.

So, how is everyone? I'm still in school at UCLA. Gonna be graduating in June.

School is great. Two more quarters to go. I think my grades are good enough to the point that I can coast for the rest of the year and still graduate. Now the hard part - getting a job.

One thing that I really have devoted myself to is watching UCLA sports. The football team beat USC this year (finally!) and the basketball team is having another awesome year.

Watched GF3 the other day and I think I'm actually starting to appreciate it a bit more.

Corpuzzi, it's so nice to see you back. Sounds like you are extremely busy. How are you enjoying L.A.??? Although you weren't too far from it before you moved if I remember correctly.

Thanks for keeping in touch and not forgetting us. Again, best of luck in your studies and future endeavors.

As everyone's already stated, it's GREAT to see you again brother. Glad to see school's going good for you. I was hoping to be out in August with my MBA but now it might look like December. The hold up is I have to write a 30-page paper and basically present it and get it "approved" by a 3-person committee made up of 3 faculty members in the business department. I probably won't have time to start writing the thing until I finish classes up in April but as long as I'm out by the end of 2007, I'll be happy

Good to hear rom ya Don C.

I responded (or wrote) to a PM about Non Profit careers like 1,000 years ago. Did you receive it? I went and checked my in-box and could not find it.

Anyway if you (or friend need any additional info) drop me a line or give me a call.

Glad life is going great for ya!
