I am starting this thread for any of the mature people who want to truly debate this nomination. If you want to name call and all the other immature stuff then go to the other thread.

What are everyone's true feelings about the nomination?

Though I find it odd that he'd nominate someone who contributed to campaings of Dems such as Lloyd Bensen and Al Gore...personally I have no problem with the nomination.

Ultra conservatives like Rush/Sean/Mark (Levin)/Laura (Ingraham)...among others are apparently somewhat bewildered and deeply disappointed at what appears to be a 'safe' and 'weak' choice by Bush.

They wanted a fight, which history has shown (thanks to the spineless Republican majority) they probably would've lost anyway. Bush & Company must've wanted to avoid the filabuster promised by Dean, Schumer etc. and keep telling us to 'trust' their choice.

Ok, so I trust their choice. We've got Roberts as Chief Justice. Let's see how the process for this nominee goes.

Thank you, DMC. Much appreciated.

The little I have read about this woman, it does seem an odd choice. She was his personal attorney and, eventually, White House Counsel. She hasn't published, and she hasn't been a judge. Where she stands on certain issues and what her interpretation of the constitution is remains to be seen.

My understanding is that because the president is going to have some serious battling ahead on other matters, he picked this woman rather than some of the other candidates the conservative Republicans were hoping for.

She is pretty much a cipher IMHO. Bush obviously thinks she shares his political views, but as everyone knows once they get on the court they can do all kinds of things. I do not think she has the raw intelligence of Roberts, but having managed a large law firm, and having been a presidential adviser, she certainly has to know which end of an ace is up. She also has probably experienced ifrst hand some sexual discrimination, especially in the late 60's early 70's when she was starting out in Texas, so it will be interesting to see how that translates to her legal opinions.

It is interesting too cause now the court has two people who have never married and have no children. The other is David Souter.

Apple [/b][/quote]Because two out of nine who never married and who do not have children is a bit disproportionate to the country at large.
