OK, everyone has been talking about the worst/cheesiest scene in the whole trilogy and alot of good ones have come up. Personally I think Sofia completly kills many of the scenes in GF III. My most hated scene with her is when she feigns sincerity in expressing her love for the family on the balcony when her and her father are eating lunch. It's just killer.

What do you guys think the worst Sofia Coppola acting scene is?

My vote goes to the "No... NO DAD!" scene. The way she says it, it's like.. words can't describe it.

Oh yeah, that reminds me.. I officially change my vote to the beginning when she says "I'll give you a hint.. he's Italian." Worst. Line. Ever.

I just saw that scene again last night, and it's replaced the gnocchi scene as the absolute worst.

All of her scenes mentioned, plus the ones that are not, really suck. There's not too much to criticize about this film trilogy overall, but her acting is the pits. Sadly, I think GFIII might have been a lot better with someone more talented in the role of Mary.

I really hate to dwell on this sorta thing, but I usually just sink my head into my hands when her and Michael are on the roof.

Do you think she has the same passion for the movies as we do? Can you imagine her reciting other people's lines like we do?

Not only is that the worst Sofia scene/line, I'll go so far as to say it's the worst scene in the whole trilogy. Al Pacino was flawless in that scene, as he usually is. For lack of a better term, as an actress, Sofia Coppola totally reeks of sucktitude.

I'm actually willing to cut Sofia a little slack here: I predict that her mark in film will be made primarily as a director. She's well on her way.

Watching her performance in GF3, I feel more sadness than anything else. She's like a goldfish swimming amid great big rainbow trout. frown

GFIII isn't my favorite partly because the rest of the gang wasn't in it and because Michael is so old and frail but to get back to the topic - besides the whole smoochy, make-out scene in the kitchen, the dumbest part is when they are in Italy and Michael tells her, he's your first cousin and she says, well I like him first.
How retarded is she? Why does she have to embarrass the family with a Jerry Springer episode? She does have great hair though.

Yeah the beginning where she calls Vincent cuz... I agree, I throw up in my mouth everytime I see that scene.

I wonder what Pacino was thinking when he was acting with her. Was he like, FFC, I know you are talented. You've given us Part I, II, The Conversation, Apocolypse Now and countless other great movies. But what the f--- do you have an amatuer in here with me? I can act circles around this broad and she'll ruin the movie!!!

Pacino was a good sport though. If anything, his acting is even better in this movie because he does it for the both of them.

Speaking of the 'No - dad' line, bad acting aside I always found it kind've awkward that Mary refers to her father as 'dad', not 'pop', 'papa', or even 'daddy'.

Clearly a scripted decision, and even though many young women do use 'dad'... in the case of GFIII it seems just a bit cold, almost forced in a way, considering we're watching the Corleone Family, after all.

I guess it's chalked' up to modern times & the Protestant/wasp side of Mary's family. Maybe also due to what we know was Michael's hands-off, lack-of-warmth, and probably unaffectionate upbringing of his children.

Of course it could also be that...bad actress that she was, Sofia couldn't bring herself to call anyone 'daddy', except her director!!!

Thought had crossed my mine on more than one occasion, good point DBCH. To me the contrasts really bring out her acting brilliant the scene on the rooftop where Al Pacino so effortlessly converys his conviction to his family with out even missing a beat in his meal and she is about as emotional, intense and interesting as the glass of orange juice Pacino is drinking.

Even Andy Garcia, eclipsed her like mad. For instance, GF III was on on saturday night, I was watching the scene at the opera where he tells her he can't see her anymore. He goes through several emotions in a short time and even starts to tear when he reveals he can't see her anymore and there is nothing he could do about it. By contrast she hardly even looks hurt and for fuck sacks she doesn't even show an ounce of emotion the whole time until she gives a showling look at michael after Vincent leaves. That was so unconvincing I was appauled.

Her acting reminds me of a house with a busted hot water heater. You can try and try to get that water hot, but the thing will only give you luke warm water
