Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders
AP - 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks. "Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.

Finally, he tell's the truth. I'm glad he could see the serious problem on his account here. His dipping popularity probably tipped him off and hinted that he should start telling the truth.

I wonder if he'll do the same for Iraq and apoligize?

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

...now he has to correct the mistakes, or at least put a plan in motion; one that will work.

He has a lot of other stuff to admit to and correct, such as telling us 9/11 was his admin's fault, the Iraq war is wrong, and there never were any WMDs. I'll wait for when he's ready. He's got until 2008 to come clean.

With his popularity numbers in freefall this was simply an astute political move. Everyone likes to see politicians 'fess up to their mistakes, and this will probably help his numbers in the polls, and get him back on track to nominate a reactionary to the Supreme Court.

Finally, Bush acts like a man and admitted his administration f*cked it up. Sure its indeed a good political move, but as I pointed out in my NEW RULES thread, Bush as always acted like a wus of a CEO as President, unlike the "Macho" image many of his supporters love to draw him as.

Political move or not, I give him credit for taking the responsibility.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard about George W. Bush! Absolutely ridiculous.

Now he needs to act on it. He needs to restructure, or do whatever it takes to fix these damn problems at the federal level, and he also needs to make sure that the local level government do what they are supposed to do.

At least he now hired a man with 30 years experience in Law Enforcement and Rescue Management to take over FEMA. Should have did that in the first place.

And I would like to see legislation proposed that calls for a change in policy and procedure between federal and local government when it comes to a potential disaster such as Katrina turned out to be. There must come a point in the event of a disaster of that magnitude that the federal government should not have to stand by if local government fails to do their jobs. For the love of Pete, we are talking about people's lives in a disaster of that magnitude.

Ronnie, I am not going to re-hash the same things over and over again about the inactions of one President and the Action of another. We've argued this time and time again. So why bother.

Too true, DC. Admitting responsibility and actually doing something to correct what was wrong are two vastly different things. I would hope and pray that nothing like this will ever happen again. There were too many lives lost due to the fact that there was no plan to feed or shelter any of these people. Imagine being plucked from the flood, only to die of thirst? Sorry, I know this has been said before, but I still can't get past it.

I do have to admire him for admitting that this was a disaster (no pun intended). Now let's see what he does to fix it.
