As for me, GF trilogy aside, I think I rewatched at least 4 or 5 times (no order): - Gone with the wind - As good as it gets - American holiday - Sabrina - Gilda - While you were sleeping - You got mail - The remains of the day - American gigolo - Pretty woman - Sunset Bld. - A streetcar named desire - Rocky and many others coming to mind later. I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic. I try to give that to people. I do misrepresent things. I don't tell the truth. I tell what ought to be truth (Blanche/A streetcar named desire)

The part where Turiddu says goodbye to his mother and begs her to take care of Santa is heart-breakingly beautiful. Kate Nelligan is excellent as the mother, and strikes that perfect blend of courage, anger, grief and hope that I would imagine such a person would feel. Cavalleria/Pagliacci have been the only performances my husband and I have seen together live. He surprised me with tickets to the Met for our anniversary a few years ago. My father loved Italian opera and he used to take me to Lincoln Center fairly often. There is nothing to compare to seeing an opera live. That is one thing I am sorry about - all my trips to Italy, and I've never gone to the opera there. President Emeritus of the Neal Pulcawer Fan Club
