More fun and games following the London bombings. Tonight, the entire Birmingham city centre was evacuated. I was on Broad Street when it happened, it was a bizarre experience. Police were moving people on, saying that their lives were in danger, but lots of people standing around, going into pubs and taking photos. They had to threaten to arrest people for obstruction to get them moving! There were also stories of one multi-story car park (the NCP) not letting people out until they paid their parking, and restaurants not evacuating customers until bills had been paid! British stiff upper lip is one thing, but this is ridiculous

I was in Birmingham last night visiting relatives and we still can't find out exactly what was going on - strikes me they got some pretty scary intelligence because there's no way they'd evacuate 20,000 people without a good reason... And they're not telling us what it was they thught would happen - just that it was a 'security alert' Either they realised there were several threats scattered around Broad Street and the entertainment areas, or there was one massive threat aimed at the whole city centre. Either way, I don't think the police overreacted - we'd criticise them if we found out they had intelligence and didn't act on it, and if something actually happened... scary stuff. Glad noone was hurt, in the end.
Senator, we are both part of the same hypocrisy

It appears that they now think these bombs were "high explosives" and not homemade, like originally thought. Also they think they went off minutes from each other instead of 30/40 minutes. Sadly, none of the bodies can be identified, they are so badly burned. Anyway, here's the story: London Bombings TIS

While I was in Las Vegas, what I thought was a strange thing, turned out to be a smart thing. About 2:00 AM on early Thursday morning, the alarms in my hotel went off. They made an announcement that we were not to panic, but that they just wanted us to be on alert and ready to leave if need be. We were all out in the halls wondering what was going on. About 5-10 minutes later they came back on and announced that everything was ok and that they were testing the alarm system. I'm thinking that it was a bit strange that they would test an alarm system at 2:00 am. But then again, this is Las Vegas. Well that morning I turn on the TV only to see the horrible images of the terrorist attacks in London. Then I start putting 2 and 2 together and realize that the alarms going off earlier had something to do with the bombings in London. Later on when I went down to the casino, I asked the security guard if the alarms alert earlier had anything to do with the bombings in London. He said that they did. The hotel got information that there was an attack in london and thought it best to have the people in the hotel ready to evacuate in the event that there were coordinated attacks in the USA and Las Vegas. But they were informed 10 minutes later that only the UK had been attacked. In a way I was gald to see that the Hotel was on the ball and was not taking any chances. However I was sickened to see how the UK was attacked. I feel for you people. Don Cardi
