Was anyone else completely blown away by this movie? Not only do I think it's the best WWII-related movie ever, and the most powerful film ever made, but one of the 10 greatest films of all-time as well. It is incredible. I definitely recommend seeing it.

I've only seen one Polanski film, Chinatown. I gave up The Pianist several times to get something else, which I regret.

it was a good movie, but it didn't strike me as one of the best movies ever. and as far as WWII movies, I can think of a couple that were better. But all the same, it was a good movie.

I haven't seen it so maybe I shouldn't comment, but there is no way Adrien Brody's performance was better than Daniel Day-Lewis's performance in Gangs of New York. Daniel Day-Lewis should have won the best actor Oscar for his performance as Bill "The Butcher" Cutting.

Oh, I absolutely love it. I think it is the second best Holocaust film, the best naturally being Schindler's List. However, on a personal scale, I did enjoy this more than Schindler; but on a strictly profesional scale, in relation to display of cinematic establishment, Schindler's List beat it.

I LOVE this movie. It's one of those films that looked dull and uninteresting to me so I put off watching for until last year when a mate forced me to see it (he lent me the dvd). I couldn't believe how wrong I was. My emotions were ripped apart by this film and by the end I was left exhausted.

It's a good film, but not better than Schindlers List.

The Pianist is better than Schindler's List in my opinion. The story and the way it begins makes you feel what characters go through.

Pianist, The ***
2002, Polanski, Fr/Pol/Ger/GB

The life of a Polish Jew who lives through and escapes the Warsaw ghetto.
Fascinating character study with impeccable acting, production design and cinematography, and the directing is typically melancholy for capturing a city and character in peril.

Even though I personally loved "Schindler's list" the most, no doubt "the Pianist" is an outstandingly touching movie. I strongly suggest all the boarders who didn't watch it, to do it ASAP.

I still believe Schindlers List is far better. I've only seen it two-three times even though I have it on dvd, just because you have to be in a special mood to watch it..

you definitely have to, Al! I rewatched it last winter after a long time. It broke my heart as if it was the first time. Usual Spielberg's direction ability, extremely good actors, all of them. In a word, a masterpiece.

A wonderful film-which is only flawed by its over-length

Over-length? You call two and one half hours long? Meh...

If the story and production are good, time should not matter.

Well as I said I haven't seen it so after I eventually do, maybe I'll change my mind, but I mean Day-Lewis was just phenomenal in GONY. As it stands I still think it should have been Day-Lewis up there kissing Halle Berry. He could've won for In The Name Of The Father as well.

It's been more than I year since I saw The Pianist, and since I read more about the 3rd Reich and National Socialsm I didn't feel anymore like watching it again. The acting was good, good story and the decors looked very good. The problem that I have with movies like this, as I have with for instance Schindler's List and American History X, is that it just contributes to making people think that the National Socialists were all that bad (Of course they comitted warcrimes), but we never see or hear about any warcrimes comitted by for example the Soviets, or the Americans, or the English. The Pianist in my opinon is just that another piece of media convincing people that National Socialsm was that horiffic and all German people should feel so shamed about this alleged holocaust. I say alledged because many of the "standarised" facts on the holocaust have never been backed up with any exclusive evidence of whatsoever, that of course doesn't make the horiffic scenes in The Pianist less far of the truth as it really were and the crimes comitted by the wehrmacht and SS in Warsaw less real.

that would be enough to justify the making of films like these, MC14.

They were NOT JUST WARCRIMES. They were horrible crimes AGAINST HUMANITY!! And if you really got infos on what Nazional Socialism was all about, you should know it. I don't know how old you are. Maybe the number 14 in your nickname is your age. If so, that's the only excuse you have for your ignorance.

Jesus, maybe it doesn't have to do with the fact that Roman Polanski was actually in the ghettos during WW2, and was making a very personal film.

Terrible pictures, DV!

Here in Norway it's tradition for many students to visit Poland and to see the Auschwitz camp when they are about 16. I visited Poland for two years ago with my former class. For those of you who are interested in the Holocaust, you should go to Auschwitz. It's a memory for life.

Really? You are blind, my friend.

How can you say this is not evidence? "Standardised" facts? The Nazis took these pictures themselves, and kept all the records themselves! If you still say these are "standardised" facts, you are a GIANT imbecile. As a matter of fact, since you've "read up" so much on the Third Reich and Nazis, why don't you read "MEIN KAMPF!?"

When did you go to Auschwitz, Mick? It would have made the Holocaust a much more believable hoax, had that particular camp not changed the plates decreasing the number of dead Jews and other refugees from 4 million to 1.4 million dead, during in the '70's. Such a drastic change can hardly have come from a simple mathematical error or have been a product of newly discovered documents in the 70's.

Vercetti - before you post ignorance; those pictures are from the Gulags, as well as the endless footage you see on The History Channel.

So all of those photos/videos showing murder, malnutrition, body pits, body ovens, and eye-witness accounts are all fake or heavily flawed? Where exactly do you get your evidence from?
