Tomorrow concerts are happening accross the globe to "Make Poverty History" and to help Africa.

For those of you who haven't heard about Live 8, here is the weblink

Live 8

I'm interested to know what people's opinions on this are...should we be helping Africa? If so, how? If not, why not? Should we wipe out their debt?

All comments welcome.

Edinburgh is the nearest one to me. But, by some strange coincidence, I'm flying to Rome in an hour or so, for the weekend.

Nice one, Mick. Rome will be great, I love Rome. I'm looking forward to watching the UK broadcast, especially Pink Floyd.

Ofcourse we should help other countries who are not that wealthy.. but the biggest problem is that money isn't the one thing that should help. Personally I think we should help in a whole different way. For example: make sure that their own culture survives. That it isn't overwhelmed by Western attributes. Secondly the political/justice system should be changed (if they have one) to secure that the countries can survive on their own (that it can stand on his own legs). And the money thing..well..wipe out their debt and give them slowly money and let them decide what to do with it (BUT this money flow should be checked by an organization like Unicef/UN to prevent money coming in going to dictators or other people)..and let them 'save' money for future problems. When these 3 things are going better the whole country will improve on many ways.

MM floors is right. Poverty can not be solved by a charity gig. Sure it gives aid and minor immediate relief but it doesn't change anything. The best reason for the Live 8 gigs is the fact that it's raising awareness around the world to the people and to the governments - mainly the G7 countries (and Russia). That's a good thing.

The root cause and economies of the poor countries really needs to be sorted out before anything gets better. Now I'm no expert on the subject but a good start to this would be to increase fair trade. Even make it law or if that's too left wing for you give the huge super market chains and importers tax incentives for dealing with fair trade goods. We can't just keep ripping off farmers in poorer countries because we have the power too.

Anyone else watching this? I didn't realize it started so early (12pm) so didn't notice 'til like 1:30 when I started taping it from VH1.

I'm mad I missed Bon Jovi -- did you catch him, Crabby?

I saw Bon Jovi, but I don't like his music so I can't give an objective judgement. But it's real nice to watch this Live 8...so Ill leave now.

I just tuned in. Did Paul McCartney play yet? Also, please give me a few other artists if you know.

Thanks

You bet I did. They were on between 4:30 and 5:00 I think when I saw them. Maybe they sing different songs in shifts. They did "It's my life". He looked terrif!!! They said there's about 1 million people there. But I'm not one of them.

Beth,

How far is that from you? I'm surprised you're not there. I saw Bon Jovi, and I agree, he is looking good. :p

Pink Floyd - Money...one of my favorites

Philly is probably 2 1/2 - 3 hours from me. I really wasn't paying much attention to the Live 8 line up. I really only found out like last week Bon Jovi would be there. If I had known earlier I would have found a way to get there. Greyhound buses run every couple hours there.

Yeah, I caught the replay of "It's My Life", but that was from their earlier set... at least I caught that much.

It's being re-broadcasted now on ABC. I guess you have the chance to miss alot of what you might have missed earlier.

I like how Sting re-did the lyrics to "Every breath you take".

well I don't care for 99% of the artists there, but I did have the luck to catch the exact moment Brian Wilson was singing "Good Vibrations". NIIICE!

Paul McCartney was great! He was, obviously, the "grand finale".

I was dissapointed. I thought Ringo and Mick Jagger were going to perform with him. They hinted that they would all sing Hey Jude together. A Bummer.

Pink Floyd was nice. I wanted to hear Money, Time, or Another Brick in the Wall, though.

Missed The Who.

Missed Neil Young. REALLY wanted to see him, he's the best.

NICE!? Man this guy was playbacking. The sounds wasn't even near his movements of lips...it didn't look that great.

DEBZ: you are right. Williams was again the 'entertainer'. He got the crowd on his hands and really enjoyed them. It looked great. If I'm correct (didn't see the end) the last song (or one of the last) was from George Michael.

My sister went yesterday with some friends. I wasn't really that interested. The only way that I would've gone was if Led Zeppelin reunited like they did 20 years ago.

Yeah, he is a brilliant entertainer! I would have loved to have been at his concert he did at knebworth that would have been an amazing atmosphere! I didn't think George Micheal would have gotten to sing the final song aw well, he probably had a good performance, i'm sure there will be repeats of the concert on again at some point!!

I didn't know Neil Young performed. I would have loved to seen him. What songs did he perform?

Also, I was really really hoping the Rolling Stones would perform.

Floyd did play Money. It was the second song they played I believe.
