I said Negreanu. He has arguably been the strongest player on the circuit and I feel like its his time to win the big one. An amateru has won the this tournament the last 3 years, but I think its time for the profesionals to take it back. Other strong bets are Erick Lindgren, Esfandiari, Hellmuth, and Lederer. If either of those win I will not be dissapointed nor surprised.

I didn't vote yet, because it's been like 2 months since I've watched any poker. But I agree with you about Negreanu's chances, as well as Esfandiari, Hellmuth, and Lederer.

What do you think of Ferguson? I know he was doing really well last year, but like I said, I haven't watched in a while. If he's not slipping, I'd say he's got a good chance too. He also lives really close to me... useless trivia.

Which one is Erick Lindgren, is he the tall blond guy?

I dont think Lindgren is that tall. Hes blonde and a little portly. Hes probably been the most consistent out of every pro out there this year. He is almost always at the final tables.

I like Ferguson and I think hes sure to be one of the favorites. He did well in the Heads up Championship before his loss in the finals to Helmuth, plus he had a good showing at last years WSOP. I would look for him to do well.

I'll bet the field against any of those guys. With over 6,000 people playing, the chances are that it'll be some random guy (i.e. Raymer, Moneymaker, Varkonyi) rather than a well-known pro.

Point taken DC, but dont you feel like a pro is going to take it back this year? It just seems like their time.

Well, it may be a pro that wins it, but the chances that it'll be a "famous" pro is small. There are maybe 20 "big names" out there and there will be over 6,500 people we've never heard of, so most likely it'll be one of those guys.

But if I had to bet on a famous pro, I'd bet on Negreanu. He's been playing really well this year. But then again, he was playing well last year (won the WSOP player of the year) but didn't even come close to the money in the main event because you just have to dodge so many bullets and mines in that huge of an event.

I'm a poker fan. I play it myself a lot and really like the game. Unfortunately I don't see many poker on tv, simply because no Dutch station is broadcasting it. So I don't know all the pro's. But as in poker, a little calculation will help sometimes. That's why I voted "Other". The chance the winner is one of the list you mentioned is small. And I think it's a advantage when you are not known. People are not familiar with your tactics, what in fact is an advantage (although the best tactic is: not having a tactic ...more the way I play)...we'll see who wins...

Hold 'Em is all about reading the players, which makes it more likely that an unknown will win.

I don't know if any of you have been following the WSOP, but there has been some great action so far. Poker legend and 1987 and 1988 main event winner Johnny Chan broke a 3-way tie with Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth by winning his 10th bracelet. Not to be outdone, Doyle (who was the main event champ in 1977 and 1978) captured his 10th bracelet last night. Other notables winning bracelets so far are Erik Seidel (career bracelet #7), T.J. Cloutier (bracelet #6), Phil Ivey (bracelet #5), actress Jennifer Tilly, and Todd Brunson, who along with Doyle became the first father-son combination to win WSOP bracelets.

Which version isn't? [/b][/quote]I'm thinking in terms of a game like seven card stud (which I much prefer), which is more about reading the cards in trying to figure out what the other players have than it is in reading the players themselves.

Okay, got your point. I most of the times play Texas, and sometimes the other regular Casino ones.

I say Raymer. There's something about those glasses...

I'll shoot myself if Raymer wins again.

Im gonna alter the question a little bit...

Who do you think will be the overall points leader for the entire World Series? I say Negreanu repeats

I guess you don't look at the standings...Negreanu is currently 228th in money won at the 2005 WSOP, and has not reached a final table yet.

Currently in 1st place is Mark Seif, who has won two events and has amassed 1,920 points (Negreanu has 0). Negreanu can come storming back and win some events, but from what I've read he hasn't been playing great poker thus far and it's hard for him to make up all that ground.

My pick for the overall winner will be Allen Cunningham, who has one win and three final tables overall. He's currently in 3rd.

Daniel is too distracted by those $500,000 a pop HU matches Barry to do much damage this year.
