I've been thinking about how many really great concerts pass me by all the time. I have absolutely NO excuse for not going to them more often.

I go to a lot of classical concerts, and as many jazz and blues festivals and/or clubs as I can, but then I always hear about all these other great shows and think "Wow, how cool" and then just forget about it. So wrong... tsk tsk!

I was browsing Ticketmaster, and I realized it's going to be an amazing summer for concerts. Too bad I'll be in Europe for a while, but still... Here are a few I'm going to try to catch.

There's Journey this month.

Next month, there's:
-Billy Idol
-Three Dog Night, Frankie Valli, the Turtles, and The Spinners (They're all still alive?! )
-Steve Miller Band
-Chris Isaak

Tony Bennett will be here in August.

In September, there's:
-George Thorogood
-Chicago and Earth, Wind, and Fire (I hope the Chicago set is longer than the EW&F set )
-The Eagles

And then, in November, there's the Rolling Stones and then Paul McCartney!

My (very late) new year's resolution (or maybe summer's resolution) is to stop ignoring the great shows and to actually go to as many of them as I can.

Is anyone going to any of the concerts in these (or other) tours?

I'm going to go see The Dave Matthews Band for the 6th time this September (always the highlight of my summer). I REALLY wanna see Billy Joel if/when he ever tours again. I did see The Beastie Boys last October and that was awesome!

I saw Billy Joel with Elton John in Vegas a couple of years ago... it was SOOO cool.

I hate DMB though, sorry. Just his voice alone is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

For ones of the past, I would've loved to have seen Elvis and the Beatles.

Right now, I really wish I could see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy live on a concert tour. ( BBVD web site ) They're an incredible big band/swing type band that I just love. They're not even going to be in Texas for the rest of this year, however! I don't know if I'd actually go see them; I guess I'm somewhat like you, Zia, where I think about how it'd be nice to go, then I forget about it. Money also would be an issue, depending on ticket prices, I suppose.

Gigi, I love BBVD! They're really, really fun to see live. I went to one of their early shows with my uncle when I was in like fourth grade or something. I felt like the coolest chick ever. When they first started, it used to be a lot easier to get tickets to see them, because they started here in L.A. Now it takes a little more planning to see them here too, because of tours and stuff... they're not always around like they used to be. But still, they're doing a New Years Eve show at the W Disney Concert Hall, which I think would be REALLY fun to go to.

Hey Zia! Well, I don't get to be a chatty night owl tonight because my mom wants me to get to bed pretty soon. I ended up getting about 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night, and I took a nap in the afternoon.

Good resolution plans Zia, I agree, I think most of us let decent shows pass us by. But I'm not too bothered about myself, there's only one band that's still around today that I'm desperate to see - The Fun Lovin' Criminals. I really want to take my mum to see Patrizio Buanne as soon as he tours England. It'd be a nice thank you because she never goes to anything like that. Until she embarrassingly throws her underwear at him.

im excite because im going to see "The Musical Box" in atlantic city...for those of you not familiar...they are the closest thing to the band Genesis as u can get! they use all of genesis' costumes and props from the gabriel era and look and sound just like them! it is hard to tell the difference between the 2 bands. i have seen them perform the album "selling england by the pound" twice and the album "the lamb lies down on broadway" 4 times. now im goin to see "the lamb...." 2 more times! im so excited!

There are only a few I would spend big bucks to see, and they include:

Billy Joel
Elton John
The Rolling Stones
The Eagles (Although I have seen them twice already)

I did see Elvis New Year's Eve 1974 (awesome)

Thanks for reminding me to check the local Arts Center , Zia! I just got tix to see Brian Wilson

And for those of you coming to the get-together in August, the only show that weekend is Donna Summer on Saturday night. I think I'll pass on that one...

I'm just curious - is this Journey with or without Steve Perry? I remember they had a guy a few years back who somewhat sounded like Steve. Man, that guy had a voice when Journey was one of the premier late 70's early 80's bands.

I agree about Journey. They were great in the 80's. I loved "Faithfully". Perry had a great voice.

Every July 4th in my city they have a concert with some group from the 60's. A few years back they had Paul Revere and The Raiders. Mark Lindsey wasn't there though . They had a replacement. He was only "ok", but it's not the same. A drummer, guitarist, is one thing, but lose the lead singer, and the band is done as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know for sure, but I assume it's without Perry. I think it's still Steve Augeri. I don't know if they're on good terms with Steve Perry-- after all, when they got their star on the Walk of Fame in January, everyone was surprised that Perry even showed up to the ceremony. I remember it being a big deal that no one thought he'd go, but he did.

Oh yeah... besides Beach Boy Brian Wilson in August... I'm gonna see Bob Dylan & Willie Nelson tomorrow, in a minor league baseball park!

Ah, nostalgia! I haven't been to a concert since Ol' Shep was a pup...just can't afford 'em these days. Why, I remember the days (in my best old-man voice) when you could see bands like Journey, Styx, ZZ Top, Heart, Kansas, Bad Company (the original, of course), Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, Point Blank, John Waite and The Babies, Ted Nugent...oops! Sorry! Got carried away! Anyways, it'd be like the price of an album back then (al' bum = a big round vinyl disc upon which recordings were made in ancient times). I've seen all the above and about as many more back then for anywhere from $5 to $10. I loved going so much that I missed both my Junior and Senior proms in lieu of concerts (Aerosmith and ZZ Top, if I remember correctly). But it's so friggin' expensive these days that there's no way I could afford it. To those of you who can, salute'.

BTW, Journey recorded a good deal of their old live album, "Captured," right here in Memphis, and I was there. Man! You guys are right about Perry. It was awesome.

Blake - Willie was awesome! I supposed you're going on 7/14 ?

I guess that's separate from the Dylan series in minor league ballparks. It was great, cuz you can go onto the field -- ahh, the wonderful smell of sod! -- and get really close to the stage! But it should still be fun!

Dylan was okay -- I'm not the biggest fan, but it was nice to see another legend in such a small venue. The Greencards opened up -- they were pretty cool, too.

I hear Dylan doesnt play guitar anymore due to either arthritis or a bad back.

Anyone go to Bonaroo?
