Lately, I've been watching all the music channels on the TV and thought it would be cool to see what music videos everyone likes?

A few of my favourites are:

Queen - I want to break free
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
Robbie Williams - Feel
Greenday - Wake me up when September Ends
Micheal Jackson - Thriller

I still dig one of the early, fairly cheesy ones: Money for Nothing by Dire Straits.

Martha Quinn just celebrated a birthday...she turned 46 (YIKES!) A firm handshake, a hearty pat on the back and the warm glow of victory if you can name the remaining original line-up of MTV VJ's! Who was your favorite of the originals and of all time?

Just for Snake, "...I want my mp3..."

These are a few of my favorite videos...in no particular order...some are memorable, some are simply seminal moments...

Roll With the Changes by REO Speedwagon. It was a straightforward, live performance concert video, but when local cable in Champaign, Illinois launched MTV on their system in 1980(?), by special arrangement with MTV this was the very first video they aired...and the very first that I viewed on MTV.

Cuts Like A Knife by Bryan Adams. It was the first video produced in the MTV era that I recall as being clever.

Take On Me by A-ha. Remember this one? Nice storyline, and it still might be the BEST animation ever.

Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads (the video based on the studio version of the song, not the live version from Demme's film). I'm a sucker for any song with a good hook. But David Byrne's "zoot" suit was the target of one of the very best SNL (or was it Friday's) skits to skewer MTV.

Watusi Rodeo by Guadalcanal Diary. It was the first time I saw punk on MTV. And it was probably an early example of trying to get your song validated for radio by having it played on MTV.

Any Duran Duran simply because they got validation for radio solely on the strength of their MTV airplay.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper. If you don't get that this was the perfect exercise in marketing and promotion, have I got a deal for you on some oceanfront property in Kansas and a bridge in Brooklyn.

I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow. OK...so this is a "guilty pleasure" for me...and it was an imperfect exercise in marketing and promotion.

Thriller & Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. He was just starting to veer off course around this time. But Thriller was a landmark short-form video built around the song...and Billie Jean was all about the moonwalk.

I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister. Metal goes mainstream.

I Ran by Flock of Seagulls but only long enough to go, "What the f**k...check-out his hair!"

Any Madonna but particularly Like A Virgin.

I know there are others, by my mind is too addled to remember right now. It seems to me that I should remember something more from Headbanger's Ball or Yo MTV Raps, but nothing else distinguishes itself at this moment.

I quit watching around the time they quit playing videos...

OK...let me be clear about this. I'm not a big Madonna fan, and her videos wouldn't appear on an exclusive list of my personal favorites. However, a lot of celebrity worship, fashion, and pop culture in general revolved around "what's Madonna doing?" and Like a Virgin was the first signal of that trend and MTV's real impact on pop culture. Consequently, any new Madonna video became a landmark moment for MTV.

Because I've seen MTV almost from the very beginning, I have to include the benchmark moments in any discussion of my favorite videos.

Good topic;) I agree with many of your choices TonyB(Thriller, Bille Jean), and I do remember Take On Me, and it was very good.

A few others off the top of my head:

California Girls & Just A Gigilo - David Lee Roth
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndie Lauper
Legs - ZZ Top
I really liked "Dancin' In The Street" by Mick Jagger and David Bowie too.

There's more, but I gotta get back to work.

I loved the David Lee Roth videos when he went solo - particularly "Yankee Rose." There was about 2 minutes of comedy in that one before the song started.

"Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen
"Glory Days" by Bruce
"Heart of Rock-n-Roll" by Huey Lewis
"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister (with the dude from 'Animal House')
"Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue
"Losing My Religion" by R.E.M.
And as much as it pains me to say, "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. It was way ahead of its time. Not so much because of the music, just what a complete nutjob he has become.

I have to agree with you there, his videos don't seem to have the same appeal as they used to with all the stuff thats been going on with him lately

Beatles: Strawberry Fields Forever.

The Beatles invented the music video by creating them for shows when they could not perform live. SFF was the best, in my opinion, because of its amazing abilty to force you to watch.

My second place goes to A Day In The Life, because the editing is wonderful.

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

the first one that comes to me is always Pearl Jam's "Do The Evolution" .

other favorites:

-> Black Flag's "TV Party"-the most idiotic, yet funny video ever. I will not dear to describe it. anyone who has seen it can help me.

-> that video from "Satisfaction" (you know that techno hit "touch me, and then just hurt me, 'til I can get my, satisfaction") the video features hot hard-worker girls wearing only bikinis pretty mich all the time.

How could I forget that Capo. I really don't care for the music, but that video of Walken dancing is great.

I've always thought the video for Sabatoge by the Beastie Boys is the best ever. I just love that one.

Thriller has to be one of the top Music Videos of all time.

I also used to enjoy some of MC Hammer's music videos.

There was also a group called Ahha which did a song called "Take On Me." The music video for that song was really great.

Yeah, I know, this old man has got to get with the times.
