It's fun to stay in the YMCA
Last night I came across someone on TV claim that people who get bored are boring people. Then I wondered when was the last time I got bored before judging the statement because obviously if I was bored earlier that day I'd disagree whilst if I couldn't remember the last time I got bored I'd agree – biased that I am.

After consideration I have to partially agree with the comment. Only partially though because some tasks are just not interesting to an individual, for example I am bored when having to concentrate on hard text that I don't enjoy. But boredom out of a pure lack of imagination would indicate a boring person to me. I mean, how hard is it to keep your mind occupied? My mind is always occupied, not matter how surreal – even, and more often, during the most mundane of activities – especially at work.

So, are people who get bored boring people?

Boring or not, it's better than needless joke spam overriding the board.

I'm never bored. Not ever. And I'm not boring...I hope.

Good, this is actually redefining my thoughts. It's probably fair to assume that finding something boring and just plain being bored are two seperate situations. The latter being responsible for the subject of the topic.

Probably, but thats different than people who get bored being boring people.
I love observing incredibly boring people. You know, those with monotomous toned voices who hardly speak. They look like crack heads whilst they're thinking of something interesting to say. I'd love to shove a dozen of them in a room whilst I watch through a mirrored window. No wait, ack it's been done. But I think there's another Big Brother this summer.

You are so funny Turi! All of us find certain things boring, but I don't think that makes a boring person. Then again, who wants to think of themselves are boring?

We all know at least one person though, who seems to be dull no? I knew this girl once who was so boring. She'd come over to visit and just sit there. I had to start all the conversation, which was boring because she'd give quick simple replies and I'd have to think again what to talk about. Made me wonder why she even came over in the first place.

I think it depends on if the person is content with their life. I don't think everyone is gonna be on the go 24-7 all their life. You need a little downtime once in awhile. Some people might find taking a walk, or doing gardening, or just enjoying watching a baseball game on tv boring. I find those things relaxing and stress relievers. I guess it also depends on the person's personality type. While others always need to be moving, others don't feel the need to be in the rat race all the time.

I'm never bored. I don't know if I'm a boring person or not. I guess you'll have to ask my friends and family that question. :p

That's where you should have had some fun and talked about licking toads or talking to inanimate objects as if they can talk back, just something/anything out of their depth.

Something I always found extremely boring:

Tupperware, MaryKay cosmetic type parties. I never go to them. I don't have anything against going thru a book and just purchasing something I want, but never did like being invited to these parties. B O R I N G! :p

My daughter however is into "Southern Living" (home accessories), and even she knows not to invite me. However, when she first started she only had like 2 people who were gonna go and begged me to go. Of course I did and now she thanks be for going to her "pity party".

I've got to agree with that sentiment one hundred percent (probably only because I'm rarely bored myself). It seems like the people who always complain about being bored and having nothing to do have no real imagination to speak of.

Never been to a tupperware or Mary Kay party. They sound awful.

Do people actually go to Tupperware parties? I always thought that was a code word for the lingerie and sex toy parties women go to.

Tupperware parties really do exist. Although here they've dwindled down considerably. You can buy Tupperware at Targets, plus Rubbermaid products are just as good and are cheaper.

I have been too a couple of Party Lite candle parties this year.

To be honest, I'm not really sure about Tupperware parties. I don't know if they still have them anymore. Been a long long time though. To each his own I guess.

You've figured it out mate! One time, my mom was having a Tupperware party, and I went over to ask her something, and needless to say, I'd never seen Tupperware that looked like that before! Scarred me for life, hell, it was probably the cause of all my sorrows thereafter...

Doctor's Advice:

If you're bored. Light some fireworks off in your house! Try shooting cats out of a cannon. Or at the very least, light something on fire for the fun of trying to put it out. Nothing small though, get an old chair and set it ablaze in your living room. Hours of mayhem!

Being bored is the largest killer of youths under the age of 14. Studies prove kids who risk life and limb in the name of Anti-Boredness and Fun live to be 137.

Take my advice, I am a Doctor.

Sincerly,

Doctor Ferro
Ruler of the Land of Fun and Mayhem

And you liar, teller of tall tales: you trample all the Lord's commandments underfoot, you murder, steal, commit adultery, and afterward break into tears, beat your breast, take down your guitar and turn sin into a song. Shrewd devil, you know very well that God pardons singers no matter what they do, because he can simply die for a song.

That sounds way better!!

Anyway, I don't think that finding certain things boring necessarily makes you a bored and therefore borING person. Everyone thinks some things are boring. But there are people who are always bored and can't entertain themselves to save their life.

You know the type: "I'm bored, there's nothing to do." --That is a bored person. And YES, those people are always also boring. Bored is what you make of it. Rather, entertainment is what you make of it. Take a walk, go to a museum, daydream, read a book, go shopping, take a nap. There are so many things (both active and/or lazy) to do if you're bored, I don't think there's any excuse.

However, sometimes you're bored but you can't do anything about it; like if you're at a Tupperware party (thank God I've never been!) or if you're listening to a boring lecture in class... those fall under the category of a normal person finding a certain thing boring.

In conclusion: Yes, perpetually bored people are boring and need a life.

I think people who come across as boring are sometimes depressed or preoccupied in their thought about something?

Actually, I disagree with that quote Turi. If you are alone you can get bored really easily. The moment I meet my friends it is like I've never felt bored in my whole life. They usually come to see me when they are bored becasue I make them laugh. I've told them many times how I've been bored but they never believe me. "You getting bored? You always seem to be so happy and so not bored!"

I think some people have missed the point. If you enjoy something to what other people can perceive to be boring then you are not bored yourself. This would take you out of the equation. You may actually be a boring person - but you are not boring based on being easily bored.

Let's take JG for an example. He's an avid fan of trains. Trains trains trains - he just can't get enough of them. He has a model network of trains running through his palace and he's a keen trainspotter at the weekend. Whilst to me this is incredibly dull and uninteresting stuff the fact the JG loves it so much would mean he's not a boring person based on the topic at hand.

Now the fact that I find the activity dull, uninteresting and quite frankly 'boring' would mean that I am the boring person. But that's not right because I would make the activity interesting and I would not get bored therefore taking away the 'boring person' tag on me.

Those that sit and 'humf' and say they're bored are the boring people!

Have I completely lost everyone?

Is anyone actually reading this?

No! Just kidding.

I think this is a comparative issue anyway. You can't say someone is boring whether they are bored or bore you to death. They might be just boring to you. For example I find my mum's aunt-in-law very boring. My mum and dad like her and visit her often. They actually have a good time and great conversation with each other.

No, that's exactly what I said. But no one reads my posts anyway, so it doesn't make a difference.
