I've always wondered, was this famous quote created from The Godfather or from somewhere else earlier? People use it all the time and I wanna say, "Yeah, from The Godfather." but i dont wanna sound like an idiot if it originated from somewhere else.

Well, when I use it I quote Mike. I have no idea where it really came from.

It is generally credited to the Chinese warrior/philosopher Sun Tsu.

Turnbull is too modest to answer this himself, so I'll answer for him. "Yes".

I've had the privelege of having dinner with Turnbull a few times, and I'm amazed at the wealth of information that comes out of him at the dinner table.

The only thing that comes out of me is, "Waiter, I'll have another drink". ohwell

I never knew this before either. Still learning about GF. smile

What about.."If history has taught us anything, it's that you can kill anyone?" Is that quote from a previous source, or just made up for the movie? Sounds like it might have been written elsewhere doesn't it?

And who says movies aren't educational and you can't learn anything. By the way Turnbull is a great teacher too. He set me straight concerning the difference and history of the Chrysler and Imperials and what the "Ghia" was...

I love my Chrysler and tuna fish sandwiches.

I thought that name sounded familiar. In the movie "Wall Street," tycoon Gordon Gecko draws inspiration from Sun Tsu's "The Art of War." Sun Tsu must have been one smart dude.

Actually Johnny, many real life Mobsters have educated themselves with the readings and lessons of Both Macavelli and Sun Tsu. I know that when John Gotti did one of his first stints in prison, he read Macavelli and later on fashioned many of his strategies from Macavelli's teachings. I also recall reading in many real life Mob books that many bosses educated themselves on the teachings of Sun Tsu.

Don Cardi cool

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

I've read Sun Tzu's Art of War and can't remember it off hand. But it has been translated many times and interpreted by many people. I'd say my version of it is the best as it sticks to the actual style of how it is written originally on the bamboo text.

There's also doubts as to whether Sun Tzu was actually just one person.

Just goes to show you, that even in mob life, you need an education to get ahead.
