Steve Martin: An American Cinematheque Tribute (2004) will be airing tonight on the AMC station. It's on at 9:00 p.m. Central.

Anyone here a Steve Martin fan? I've seen some of his movies, including:

- The Jerk
- My Blue Heaven
- Father of the Bride I and II
- Bringing Down the House
- small part of Cheaper by the Dozen
- I believe I've seen part of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles as well as Bowfinger

He's just a very funny comedian to me, and I adore his sort of stupid/goofy style of humor. I missed out on a lot of classic SNL skits of his time, but I did have the priviledge of watching clips from the "two wild and crazy guys" one, (I can't recall the names of the two brothers) as well as the King Tut one. Anyway, maybe some of y'all are more knowledgeable of his work, as I haven't seen near as much as I would like to of him.

Here's the synopsis from the AMC site:

"This exclusive hour and a half tribute looks back at the achievements of legendary actor, comedian and writer Steve Martin, from his arrow-through-the-head beginnings on "SNL" to his motion picture successes. Stars such as Martin Short, Claire Danes, Ron Howard, and Kevin Nealon headline the festivities in Los Angeles's famed Egyptian Theater. You'll see the stars' dazzling entrances on the red carpet as well as the awards ceremony and gala dinner."

His movies are getting worse by the year.

I LOVED "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" though.

I almost didn't want to mention I'd seen Bringing Down the House and Cheaper By the Dozen for that exact reason, DV. Not to say anything new he makes is bad, but I'd rather catch up on his older movies that I know are well-liked.

My favorite Steve Martin movie is "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid".

The Jerk and Planes Trains are classics. The newer stuff is for a different audience and aren't good. He should go back to his older types of movies.

I absolutely loved The Jerk. They just played the "I don't need you! I don't need any of this! Except this ashtray. Just this ashtray and..." scene.

His next two new films are Shopgirl and The Pink Panther, I believe, so I'm curious as to how those will turn out.
