"De Niro and Scorsese Discuss 'Taxi Driver' Sequel

Screen legend Robert De Niro has reunited with iconic director Martin Scorsese to work on a sequel to their classic movie Taxi Driver. The Oscar-winning actor, who starred as disturbed Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle in the 1976 film, has confirmed the movie veterans are mulling over script ideas for a follow-up to the gritty original. Apart from his comedy turn in Meet The Parents and its recent sequel Meet The Fockers, De Niro has starred in a series of flop films - and critics are hoping Travis Bickle's resurrection will restore his reputation as one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. De Niro, 61, says, "I was talking with Martin Scorsese about doing what I guess you'd call a sequel to Taxi Driver, where he is older." "

From imdb.com, this is interesting.

I honestly doubt this is true but if it is, I am very much intrigued. I mean a look at Travis Beckle's not-so-solid psychological playground several decades later, after Rudy Guiliani's "clean up" of all those porno theaters/strip clubs, after 9/11........hey, it could work.

Oh ragging buddy, didn't you miss where I said "From imdb.com"?

Anyway, I actually think Paul Schrader would HAVE to come back and script this sequel since DRIVER itself was his creative bastard love child. Besides, after getting his cut of EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING shelved and reshot by....Renny Harlin. Talk about a lack of respect!

Would a DRIVER sequel work? Well it would be at least worth my attention since it would be Scorsese and DeNiro working together again since the pretty good CASINO back in 1995. I mean who doesn't who this legendary cinematic team-up to work up another movie?

But I dodged my own question....you know, I should get into politics.

Casino was a damn good movie
if deniro really wants to get his glory back and be considered a good actor again him and scorsese need to go find pacino and pesci, and take a few guys from the sopranos and grab like christopher walken and maybe andy garcia and make a mob movie to end all mob movies.

Taxi Driver is one of my all time favorite movies, which is exactly why I dont ever want to see a sequel,EVER. I dont care if DeNiro, Scorsese,Schrader, and every single other person from the orginal, right down to the gaffer, is the same. Travis is the epitome of the misguided, angry, and lost youth. I for one do not care what happened to Travis as he grew older, hell we dont even know for a fact that he survived the final shootout.
I know this came from IMDB, and usually they are pretty accurate, but this seems a little fishy to me. I know DeNiro's roles havent exactly been all that great lately, but I would hope that he, and especially Scorsese realize that a sequel about angry young man grown into a senior citizen in post 9/11 New York would be doomed from the start.
