Do you think that Al Pacino's legacy will forever be tied to Michael Corleone? what i mean is, do you think that he will best be known for his roles as Michael?

Probably a generational thing. I don't know how old most folks are on this board, but I'm 43 and although I remember when the first GF came out (I was 13), I never really watched it until I was in my late teens.

I'll bet many adults under 30 know Pacino more for "Scent of a Woman" the "The Godfather".

Al Pacino's portrayal of Michael Corleone is a great performance. Its the character that made him popular. Now, Pacino is a good enough actor to let you forget his other cahracters he has played while he is acting in another role. Although, MC was and is Pacino's signature role, and while not all Pacino fans have even saw GF, Pacino will mostly be remembered in the GF trilogy.

i certainly think that Michael will remain Al's most popular character. I love all of his performaces. but the godfather was the perfect movie and pacino gave the perfect performace. it really angers me that he didnt win an oscar for any of the godfather films. one it was amazing to see how he transformed this character who wanted nothing to do with the family and then by the end, hes the don. in part two hes amazing as shows how this man looses it all. i dont mean to dimish the performaces of brando or deniro. but i think all the godfather films belonged to him. and i think he should have definitely been the one to win oscars.

Michael Corleone: My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Kay Adams: What was that?
Michael Corleone: Luca Brasi, held a gun to his head, and my father assured him, that either his brain or his signature would be on the contract.

I voted yes, because I have to agree with Pacino himself. He goes on record on that issue in a videotaped interview, I seem to remember that it was part of a Making of extra features documentary in the VHS GF collection, but it could also be in the DVD Collection. Whatever. In it, Pacino says he believes that MC is the role by which he will always be remembered.

Yes, I think MC is definitely the role Pacino will most be remembered for. However, unlike some actors, he won't be remembered "only" as a one-time mega hit actor. He has had many outstanding performances besides GF, and they too will go down as work of excellence and I would guess even in years to come film study/actor students will learn much from other Pacino performances. smile

Marlon Brando the same thing. Not a "flash in the pan", with other hugely successful movies to his credit, that won't be forgotten, he too will be most remembered as Vito Corleone to most.

I would have to agree that MC is a very good performance but it is hard because of Pacino's varied acting career. Marlon Brando as well, I particularly like him in Apocalypse Now, very well played but he will always be best viewed as the Vito Corleone we all love...

Hey ya'll

Michael Barzini, Pacino wasn't in Apocalypse Now, check out this URL:

I voted no, because although the Godfather is one of his great preformances, it's very much standard Pacino fair. I would personally say, he is in full Pacino mode in Glengarry Glen Ross. He's had many elaborate, great roles which he's done great on and Godfather, although deep and complex is still I would say not his best. I think Scarface was more of an in your face preformance personally, so depends on what you like about Pacino, but it will be either Scarface or The Godfather.

I think most older people will remember him as Michael Corleone, but the younger generation that is more into violence and drugs are more likely to remember him as Tony Montana. Whats funny is noone will remember him as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade, which is still the only role he won an oscar for.
However, despite considering myself as being in the younger generation, I will remember him as Michael Corleone because that was the first time I became a huge fan of him and realized how great of an actor he really is.

regardless of age, Al Pacino will always be first remembered as Michael Corleone for anyone who has watched The Godfather.

I agree that its what he should be remembered for but most people under the age of 20 are more likely to think of him as Tony Montana. Even ask JGeoff, he said in his interview about The Godfather that he first started to love Pacino's work was in Scarface. Maybe he thinks Pacino did an even better job in The Godfather, but he was still introduced to Pacino by seeing Scarface.
Most people who were not alive when Scarface or The Godfather came out are more likely to see Scarface first because it is more recent and more appealing to the young age group. Therefore, younger people are more likely to remmeber him as Tony Montana.
