Article in Gangland today about a Gambino capo in the Sicilian faction who's been arrested for assaulting the owners of a restaurant. What caught my eye was at the end the article it says that Joseph Lanni (the arrested capo) had told Frank Cali's widow they should sell their house because she's struggling to make ends meet since the father's death. She is Pete Inzerillo's sister a made guy very close to the hierarchy of the family, if not in the hierarchy himself now. Seems highly unlikely to me that the Family would cast that family off like that which is what the article implies...I know many rats complain about their Family not supporting them when they get arrested and I'm sure it happens often but this one seems unlikely to me. But maybe I'm the ignorant one...

Wow, so the Gambinos are a bunch of brokesters? If the Gambinos are broke, just imagine the state of the other Families.

If in the event that they're not broke and just don't give a shit about Frank Cali's family, then perhaps the Cali hit was sanctioned. This is how they treat guys that they approved the killing of. This doesn't sound like a guy who was loved and respected by the hierarchy.

I don't believe that part of the article personally. But as I said maybe I'm ignorant to how low these guys' values actually are. But my opinion is that's not the case, unless there is family politics there but as far as I'm aware (which my awareness is basically nothing) there was no rift between Frank and Pete Inzerillo so I assume the guy will be looking out for his sister. As well that the Inzerillo's go beyond just Pete to guys operating back in Sicily now and in NY, I can't imagine this is true.

C'mon many mobster had drinking problems. To be a mobster wasnt easy despite Hollywood movies.
Even Joey Merlino father that was the family underboss was demoted because was drunk and caused a war with the Pagans.

They're living a house that's gotta be worth $1.5 million or so. That is life changing money for most people. Why on earth would they support that family for years on end? Tall Pete has his own family

I guess that all depends on perspective of that life. He was a member and allegedly boss of the family, apparently not murdered due to internal disputes. Even disregard the mafia, let's say your own sister who's husband has been murdered and you have 3 nieces and nephews and when they ask for support you just say sell the house? Maybe you do that in your culture but not mine and not in general Sicilian culture either.

There is almost certainly more to the story if there even is a story at all but it doesn't sound likely to me, particularly that this Lanni guy is the one she would be reaching out to which is what the article indicates. It all sounds unlikely to me.

I would absolutely tell them to sell the house. That woman can get a job, can't she? There's more people in this world than my sister or Frank Cali's widow!!

You are a tight bastard lol nah I'm joking I hear ya. I guess I'm more speculative about how the article reads i.e. it is suggesting that the mob/their friends and family are refusing to help them which I think is unlikely. They're sitting on some good money there so I'm not disputing selling could be a good idea

If I was a made guy in that Family, this would be embarrassing for me to read. Highly-respected leader of my Family gets killed and not only are we unable to get any revenge on the asshole who did it, but we can't afford to take care of his family either.

These are true words.
