I have a question for our more knowledgable forum members regarding a fellow that I've seen very little written about, that I'd like to know more about, Louis Eboli.

He was the son of legendary NYC Mafia boss Thomas (Tommy Ryan) Eboli, but ended up with his own underworld career within the Chicago Outfit.

TD, any info on this guy?

Yup, as you already said, he was the son of Tommy Eboli who in turn left him in Chicago with his mother. Louie Eboli grew up around Chicagos western suburbs and was allegedly mentored by Guido DeChiaro (alleged distant relative of Ricca), Chuck Nicoletti, Joey Lombardo and others. Most of those guys belonged to the so-called Grand Av crew and so did Louie Eboli. Some of Ebolis associates were Sam Ariola, Guy Cervone, Dominick DeSantis, James D'Antonio and Tony Centracchio.

When old man Tommy Eboli got killed, story goes that the young Eboli allegedly wanted to retaliate, something which placed him in great danger with the NY mob. Reports show that Louie Eboli walked with bodyguards which were allegedly provided by DeChiaro. In the end both Ricca and Accardo intervened and so young Eboli was safe again. He became big in loan sharking, extortion and video poker machines. Im not 100% sure but i think he was also present during the Spilotro murders.

By the early or mid 1980s Louie Eboli succeeded Lombardo as capo for the Grand Av crew but died in 1987 i think.

According to calabrese he was one of the killers of the spilotros. First time I heard about him was when reading about the spilotro hit. Really interesting and another example of the 100+ years tie between the genovese and outfit. He died early if I remember right in his middle age (natural causes). Funny nickname TD do you know why he was called mooch?

Thats right he died "young" of natural causes. Regarding his nickname...back in the days some guys connected it to some of his loan sharking operations but on the other hand, the media thought otherwise...

Great find TD - never seen specifics about that nickname. I know Sam Ariola was Louie's uncle and they called him 'Big Sam.' I also believe Eboli was behind the attempted extortion of Guido DeChario - which led to the death of DiChario's son in law - these guys were all ruthless fucks.

You're spot on by labelling those guys as ruthless fucks mainly because DeChiaro was one of Eboli's mentors and also protector, but by the end of the day the old man probably received a "knife in his back". Business is business lol.

This reminds me of another situation when Alex inherited the rackets or interests (Loop, N South Side & 1st Ward) from the late Jake Guzik. Even though most sources stated that there was always a good relationship between the "teacher" and his "student", still one informant stated that after Guzik's death, Alex allegedly extorted Guziks brothers since the late old man was one of the richest Outfit guys.

Wasn't it Eboli's house or house he owned in Bensonville where the Spilotro's met their fate in the basement? He probably would have been convicted in the Family Secrets trial had he not died at 53 of cancer in 1987.
