We all know of Roy Demeo and Anthony Casso, then of course Tommy Pitera. But other than those guys, who in your opinion were the biggest psychopaths in the American Mafia?

Who took a true passion in killing people? Like how Ted Bundy enjoyed killing women or say John Wayne Gacy?

Is there anyone out there currently who has a reputation for just fucking up people for the fun of it?

Joe Watts is not a psychopath. Not even close. Tough guy? Sure. Deadly? That depends on your actions. I've never heard of him hurting anyone who didn't have it coming.

But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way
Had to be a fool, had to throw it all away

We can all talk about this or that mobster....but when it comes down to being a real psycho and also making A LOT of cash at the same time, Sam "Dyno" aka "Mad Sam" Destefano was second to none. Maybe we can include Tommy Pitera in the mix too but still, I believe DeStefano was the real deal, and there was no other more "dangerous patient" like him in the whole US mob at the time. Telling to some of his victims that they are going to be a sacrifice to Satan, or putting them into a meat grinder or even urinating in someones drink, or running almost naked before the judge and all newspaper men and showing surgical scars, followed by forcing his own wife to have sex with a black dude at gunpoint or comin in pajamas around some of the famous night clubs at the time....i mean WOW lol If Pitera ever met "Dyno", Pitera was probably going to be like "Dude, what the fuck?!" Lol

But by the end of the day DeStefano was one of the biggest loan sharks at the time and also financed many dope deals and also controlled burglary crews and gambling operators. So DeStefano was bringing millions and also had the balls to say to Giancana something like "Fuck off" or something to that extent, obviously because they were friends for a very long time period.

Sam DeStefano

The guy was crazy.......

The only person that he could control him in Chicago was Giancana and Paul Ricca....

He didn't respect Auippa; Accardo or Cerone....

Once Ricca died; He was vulnerable ...

On Sam DeStafano, Scarpa I agree. I don't think Lefty Ruggerio or Joe Watts fit the profile.

I believe Valachi was actually ruled insane before he testified but it was kept secret. Prison doctors examine him
and said so, then later it was revealed many in his family were suicides or committed to mental institutions.

To be honest, Sam DeStefano is the only one who truly fits the bill as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure some of the other guys enjoyed killing, but it was usually people who either asked for it or made them paranoid. I think DeStefano is the only one who would go out and kill someone for no reason.

....in addition to my previous post, besides being a total psycho, torturer and a murderer, I already said that during the 50s and 60s he was making millions out various rackets but one of the most interesting thing for me is that DeStefano corrupted so many cops to the level which some of DeStefanos juice victims were brought in police cars straight to his headquarters. Story goes that he had whole police squads on juice and so they had to work it out somehow, and obviously one of the things was to find some of his juice victims and to bring them over to him. One of DeStefanos crazy statements on national televesion while counting money in front of all news reporters, was that he can lend money even to the US President if he wanted to, or something to that extent, was somehow true lol

Sam DeStefano had a sound proof torture chamber in the basement of his house. I'd say that goes above and beyond. There was an episode of "Mobsters" that featured Sam and there was footage of him threatening reporters to leave his brother alone and he looked like he was pretty unhinged. Bet there were some relieved folks in Chicago when Tony Spilotro blasted him a few times with the shotgun in his garage/driveway.

Spilotro and DeStefano's brother Mario (another made guy) were allegedly the two hitmen. Interesting to note is that Mario killed his brother Sam, while previously both of them (Sam and Mario) killed their third brother Michael DeStefano who in turn was allegedly a junkie. "Family tradition" lol

@Liggio

You said it correct; DeStefano seem like the only guy in that life who “Would kill for no reason”….

He was a nasty; nasty guy…. He deserved what happened to him….

And like I was saying; Once Paul Ricca and Sam Giancana were gone…. (His protectors)

He was done….

The word psychopath is commonly misused and misunderstood today. A lot of them are in risk averse lifestyles like firemen, military, etc. And all other walks of life, men and women both, school teachers and on and on. Most certainly never kill anybody or even ever commit violent crimes. That's not to say they aren't dangerous and basically their own shade of evil.

Is there a go to documentary piece on Mad Dog?

Yep, Mario walked in front of Tony to block Sam's view of the shotgun and then Tony blew Sam's arm almost off at the elbow before he hit him in the chest. That photo of Sam laying dead on his back with his beady black rodent eyes......Wonder if they had to perform an exorcism or something on Sam's torture chamber in the basement? I also wonder how much $$$$ Sam had stashed in that house, he was making millions of dollars and for a long time. All the abuse he gave his wife and you can hear her wailing and calling out for Sam on that news footage they had when the police were at the crime scene to do an investigation with Sam's corpse covered up by a sheet in the garage and Sam's wife came home.

As much as you may not believe all his stories, wouldnt the Iceman be considered one of the biggest psychopaths when it comes to what we are talking about?

I believe that he killed people, just wasn't the mob hitman he claimed. Not a single photo of him anywhere with any mobsters.

You talking about Mad Sam or Spilotro?

Btw, they both belonged to the same crew under Battaglia, Alderisio and Nicoletti.

Mad Sam was more of a torturer and sadistic murderer then a hitman, while Spilotro was also a torturer who learned from Mad Sam and Nicoletti, but he was more of a professional hitman who did jobs almost everywhere around the midwest.

Also heres a pic of Mad Sam (left) from the 1930s together with Dominick Monaco...

He was convicted of 5 i believe. Maybe he got away for 2-3, but I’m skeptical of even that.
