If things would have been different would a Gotti still be in power as boss? If so who would that be right now?

The blame fo this is only of Gotti sr. Castellano wasnt popolare as boss but he know how stay in the shadow and make money,Gotti only with forcing all capos and soldiers to show respect in front of his club gave infos to the feds on people that never was recognized as Gambinos made men.
Plus his was ruined by mouth,he bad mouthing of everything even if is a skipper that let made him more money. Gravano listening gotti that was blaming him for everything,decided to flip.
Another mistake was to use his son as street boss and this made angry more soldiers that lost money because gotti jr wasnt good in the sitdown and in 1999 there was a rumor that someone would kill junior.
If Gotti would survive the cancer for sure the sicilians in the family would shelve him.

Gotti Sr was an ass, a blow-hard and overall not that smart, leaving Junior in charge and then Peter were stupid decisions #1 and 2. In the end, he had nobody to blame but himself

Gotti Sr. expedited the decline of OC on the East Coast. Big Mouth and can be concurred Jerk Off. And Arrogant. And not too bright.

although i am far from being pro gotti, john sr. cannot take all the blame. gotti was able after castellanos murder to surround himself with loyalists for the most part. most if not all the capos fell in line out of fear or with the expectation of making more money. these same loyal capos were the ones who propped up john gotti jr and peter gotti after johns imprisonment. possible that many capos after 1992 were not kicking up proper to junior or had any respect for him at all, but many did and i am sure there is still a pro gotti group inside gambinos to this day. not necessarily pro junior but to the mystique or allure of john gotti. peter gotti on the other hand turned into the definition of lightning rod/front boss for gambinos from 1999-2002. by all accounts peter did become official boss but for what a year on the streets. spent the last 19 years of his life in jail. which served those with a brain in family very well as they slowly gained power in family.

i think we can lump gotti in with the likes of amuso/casso and vic orena as far as succesful bosses from late 80's to early 90's. he was not by any metric a succesful boss.

Do people not realize it, or just don't want to acknowledge the fact that Castellano was under 2 separate indictments in major cases before Gotti came along as boss? That Castellano was on the news often, and even talked to reporters outside the court as much as Gotti did?

Then there was Anastasia, always in the news up till his death. I don't know if it's a beyond normal hatred of Gotti, or not knowing these things.

You look at Chin's family and they're all doing very well for themselves financially....He got them in good union jobs and businesses...Same as Castelanno...And then look at Gotti's family, a bunch of clowns selling drugs and committing arsons because they're not capable of doing anything else...Victoria Gotti had her house foreclosed on and Twitchy only has money because of his time on the street with his old man...Everyone else is an embarrassment !!
