We hear about other bosses having opposition;

We never hear Corallo haven’t any opposition and he kept control over his family until he went to prison in 1986…

Who were guys that he took out besides Andimo Pappadio? He was an option and powerful opponent for. Corallo and most think he was killed over it.

Are there anymore???

I think if he stayed out till the 1980's he may have been challenged by that maniac Casso. He must have been a good boss who treated his men fairly, so there was no motivation to challenge him. It seems the bosses who wee challenged either lost control of the family, or were out of control of their own behavior. Albert Anastasia seemed to have made enemies in his own family. Castellano was out of touch with certain crews, but to be fair he had guys like Gravano under him who were disloyal, and the situation with Gotti trying to protect Ruggerio. Corello may be one of the most underrated bosses.

@ Jace;

I agree; Corallo would have had some inner-family turmoil and could have potentially been removed as boss through “death” a “commission voting” or simply just lost control over the family…..

Chris Furnari; Casso and Amuso could have all made a move….

Salvatore Santoro was having problems with Corallo tooo…. He hated the Brooklyn guys….

Corallo was definitely underrated…. Who had more power though; Him or Anthony Fat Tony Salerno?? They seem equal dispite their titles as Boss and Underboss

Maybe he was real good at dealing with problems when they were in the WOMB, and we just never heard about them because they were dealt with accordingly.

I think it was because he was extremely influential in the unions. Anybody can set up gambling and drug rackets but it takes more business savvy, knowhow and intellect to negotiate the world of unions and nobody was really on his level.

After Pappadio got whacked and Corallo was ratified as boss, for the rest of his career he never had another challenger. Tony Ducks had been a highly respected member to begin with, and after his ascension to the top seat he treated everyone fairly, so he was well received by his rank-n-file and other NY families alike.

At the time of his death, Pappadio had been "acting boss." He was a top figure himself, highly respected since the early days of Tommy Brown. He resisted stepping down. So Tony took him down!
