I question whether or not the mob has been kicked out of the unions as much as people claim. Unions are still to this day rife with corruption and embezzlement. They're just too corruptible for the mob to stay away.

They're not completely gone from the unions but they're not pillaging the Teamsters' pension fund anymore. Same thing as their presence on the docks. They've been greatly reduced but not completely eradicated.

I would think a smart racket would be scamming old ladies with extortion over the phone getting them to pay for something they don't owe. They are easily manipulated and naive.
