While I am not a fan of Ja Rule, the new version of 'New York, New York' is great.

Quote:
[Hook - Ja Rule]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)
I got a semi-automatic that spits next time if you talk (you talk)
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)
I got a semi-automatic that spits next time if you talk (you talk)
(And I know)

[Verse 1 - Ja Rule]
Y'all niggaz is pussy, poonani, vagina
Your monologue's getting tired, now it's time to ride
Your print distrified, you're no longer desired
So take off them silly chains, put back on your wire
I'm on fire, holly dipped in octane
Let east coast bang, let west coast bang
And Rule gonna bring the ghetto gospel
To every 'hood possible, pushing through in the sky blue
Back with the gods you now, preferably the 4 pound
Slugs flying at the speed of sound
Trying to catch the ears of niggaz that's running their mouths
I might get my Brooklyn niggas to run in your house
I don't really understand what the runnin's about
But we're hunters, we take pride in airing our prey out
Leaving 'em layed out, dead, in just a sport
'cause we ain't playing up here in New York

[Hook - Fat Joe]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)

And you can tell the way the homie spit, That nigga, I'm from New York (New York)
I got a hundred ways to make a grip, Yes, I'm from New York (New York)
And you can tell I get real ignorant, 'cause nigga, I'm from New York (New York)
(And this is how we do)

[Verse 2 - Fat Joe]
Nigga I can see the coke in your nose
This ain't a movie, even he got his head blown on the globe
And I was just about to find god
But now that Ma$e is back, I think I'd much rather find a monogue
And everybody talking crazy how they're AK spit
But we know this investigating, and they ain't spray shit
Not me, I'm the truth homie, got the industry shook like
"Naw nigga, Joe gonna let 'em loose on me"
True Story, I'm bringin the T back
Even Roy Jones was forced to (Lean Back)
My nigga Dre said grind cook
Now we killing them hard niggaz, who said I must of found Pun's rhyme book
Got bitches on top of the Phantom
And the pinky got bling, like the ring around Saturn
Cook coke, crack, niggas fiend for that
And you already know the x is where the team be at

[Hook - Jadakiss]
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)
(Ruff Ryde), and (D-Block) and shit, Nigga fuck what you thought (you thought)
And you can't take shit for granted, because life is too short (too short)
I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York
(Aha, and this is how we do)

[Verse 3 - Jadakiss]
I swear it couldn't be sweeter, Life's a bitch
Depending on how you treat her, you might get rich
It's guaranteed you gonna die, you might get missed
For maybe 2 or 3 hours, 'til they light their spliffs
And that coke will get you a long time
But when I let 'em know the dope is out, it's like America Online
Wise has awoken
And you know they say that you deserved it whenever you die with your eyes open
I still hold a title because I'm in the hood like them little motorcycles
Stick up kids, hopping out with them old rifles
Just doing shit for nothing, it's so spiteful
Ha I'm just like you
Word that niggas wanna murk you is in the air
A double shot of yak and the purple is in the air
And I'm not cocky, I'm confident
So when you tell me I'm the best it's a compliment

[Hook - Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss]
[Ja Rule:] I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)
[Fat Joe:] And you can tell the way the homie spit, That nigga, I'm from New York (New York)
[Jadakiss:] I got a hundred guns, a hundred clips, Nigga I'm from New York (New York)
[Ja Rule:] I got a semi-automatic that spits next time if you talk
[All together:] Aha, and this is how we do

Patrick,

Most times I try to understand your position. Most times I succeed, but I have to tell you that you lost me on this one. I'm fairly muscial, but I couldn't connect the tune (granted, I didn't try too hard), but some things are just classics-in-concrete and New York, New York is one.

OH MY GOD!! I don't even need a translation to know that's absolutely horrible.

Please tell me it's not the NY NY we all know and love? Poor Sinatra's probably not only turning in his grave, he must be spinning like a top. :p

Patrick, Patrick!! We have got to expose you to "music" one of these days.

Don't panic TIS! It is not the same tune as our beloved New York New York. It is actually a different tune with nothing to do with the Sinatra Song. I happened to hear this song today on the radio. It actually is a rap song and is sung "I'm from Newww Yuuuk. Scary, isn't it?

Whew! That's a relief DC. Since it's noted as the 2004 version, I thought it might be Frank's.

I'm just not up on my rap music! :p And...if I ever am, please, put me away!!!

That song will never compare to the one performed by Frank. TIS is absolutely right, one of these days we should all expose Patrick to some real music, where there is actual chord progressions and the melody doesn't consist of a monotone voice that talks (not sings) with the same vocabulary as the gangstas that live on my street. Thank God that the "song" wasn't a remake of Sinatra's New York, New York.

One usually can't top SC's one-liners. Even the lame ones are laugh-out-loud funny.

That's beautiful. Anyone else get a lump in their throat? Maybe a little teary-eyed? Goosebumps, anyone?

OK, I have a funny story for this song.

My sister went to New York last week with the high school choir. She called me and said she lost her instrumental version to "New York, New York", which is what they were gonna sing. I had the instrumental version saved on my computer, so I told her I would put it on a cd and bring it to her. Well, my oldest brother was messing around and got all my files mixed with his files. So I put the song on the cd and rush it over. When I get to my sisters house, we plugged in the cd to see if the quality was alright, and this God-awful song comes over the speakers. Come to find out, my brother d/l Ja Rule's version, saved it as the same name as mine and saved over my instrumental version of the much better "New York, New York."

Luckily, I had a backup folder with another copy of the song. Needless to say, I was mad .

Just thought I'd share .

Pat, I think you have your topics confused. This is the subject that should have been listed under "Why Americans are hated."
