The United States in January formally designated Russian private military company the Wagner Group as a transnational criminal organization. PMC Wagner (Wagner Group) is a Russian private military company led by Yevgeniy Prigozhin, a Putin crony and the target of multiple U.S. sanctions.

They make tons of money in Madagascar, Libya, Sudan, Mozambique, the Central African Republic, Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a plane which crashed in Russia, killing all 10 on board.

He was believed to be on board the plane.

Earlier, a Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone reported that the jet was shot down by air defences in Tver region, north of Moscow.

Prigozhin led a failed mutiny against the Russian armed forces in June

Russia confirmed he has died in the crash after Wagner-linked social media said he's dead.

He is the founder of the Wagner Group and three other companies. These include internet research agencies, concord management, and consulting.

Wagner has responded extensively to the accident on Telegram. The Kremlin, especially President Vladimir Putin, is accused by the group of attempting to assassinate Prigozhin. “If the information about his death is correct, we will go to Moscow for a second time. Unlike the media-enamored Prigozhin, Utkin preferred to stay out of the public eye. In the meantime, as commander of all Wagner operations worldwide, Utkin had the day-to-day military command of the mercenary army. In addition, Oetkin is the founder and namesake of the Wagner group. The former lieutenant colonel of the Russian secret service GRU liked to be called 'Wagner' by comrades, as a tribute to the German composer, of whom Adolf Hitler was also a great admirer.

The shared admiration is probably no coincidence, as Oetkin's far-right sympathies are an open secret in Russia. For example, according to media reports, he has tattoos of SS runes above his shoulder blades.

It is not clear what role Utkin played in the Wagner army mutiny in June and the short-lived capture of the city of Rostov-on-Don. But everything indicates that he was on the side of Prigozhin, because the two then addressed the Wagner troops together in Belarus. Utkin swore on that occasion that there was a great future for Wagner, not so much in Russia as in Africa. He ended his speech in English, according to the Russian independent Russian news site Meduza , with the words ' Welcome to hell! '

Utkin was born in the Russian town of Asbestos in the Urals (named after the carcinogenic material) but grew up in Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. He turned 53 years old.

OTHER OCCUPANTS
In addition to Yevgeny Prigozhin and Dmitri Utkin, eight more people died in Thursday's plane crash. The other passengers on board the plane were Sergei Propustin, Yevgeny Makaryan, Aleksander Totmin, Nikolai Matyuseyev and Valery Chekalov.

There is little information about most of them. Chekalov is on the United States sanctions list because of his close contacts with Prigozhin. He has been the head of Wagner's own security service for years and is known for his threats against journalists.

The three crew members of the aircraft, pilot Aleksej Levsjin, co-pilot Rustam Karimov and flight attendant Kristina Raspopova, were also killed.

It has been smart move to take their leadership out, they were too extreme.
