So is there any activity left involving the Winter Hill Gang in south Boston? If so who's in charge currently?

Winter Hill has always been a loose confederation, not like LCN, so I'm sure there are still some early guys around in Somerville.

As someone else said, this was always a loose confederation of crooks that only got less organized after Bulger, Flemmi etc. were arrested or went on the lam.

You mean is there an Irish guy in an Irish neighborhood that lends money, takes a bet or extorts a drug dealer sure.

But there is no organization, infrastructure or pecking order

Is there a structure? No. Are there criminals of irish blood operating in Boston? Yes. Most say when KW flipped was the end, but the winter Hill gang was still active in the mid 2000s, just not as powerful as they once were, cause of all the damage that the two did. By late 2000s, all members had either retired or gone out on their own. There still a couple of neighborhood guys that still call some of the shots in Charlestown and Somerville, but nothing like it was back then. Many are involved in street gangs that are made up of different ethnicities, or with the local neo nazis, some who went or were in prison joined SAC, or DMI.

A lot of the historic "Irish mob neighborhoods" in Boston like Southie and Dorchester are for the most part Cape Verdean gang territory these days. Those gangs push a ton of dope and don't hesitate to pull out the AK-47.

Apart from that the Irish-American "mobs" never had the organization, the means and the history the Italian-American LCN had. So in terms of an "ethnic mob" there was never gonna be that much longevity in their game.

Surely there are still plenty of criminals of Irish descent, but in terms of organized crime I bet they're more inclined to be part of an organization like an outlaw motorcycle group or a prison gang as opposed to a full-on ethnic "Irish mob".

I think South Boston, Charlestown and Somerville are still considered Irish but of course plenty of others have moved in.

that list was helpful if only as a guide to prove of the lack of info on a lot of these guys. most names have been refed onto different sites so many times its ridiculous.
found some info on some on not alot on most.

-gerald perkins of south boston looks to be an ATM thief twice being busted in 2011 and 2020. thats it on him.

-john joseph murray is bro of joe murray and a charlestown criminal not southie. was imprisoned nov.19 2002 to 9yrs 4mths for extortion of kevin hayes w/ kevin weeks which may explain his name on this list. also charged w/ a litany of crimes along with leadership of IBT local 25 in charlestown. george w. cashman, william h. carnes pres and v.p. respectivley. murray should be out from sntence unsure of his activity since release.

-IBT local 25 has an interesting past that i may report back on later.

-the one name that popped up regarding southie was an illegal sports betting ring led by john woodman that was indicted nov.13 2015. gonna dig into that one a bit more. like a lot of betting rings in 2000's was also using servers based in COSTA RICA as has become the standard op. had one frederick stevenson ex police working as #2 for woodman allegedly.

-so to wrap up southie looks like mostly non irish related street level drug networks.

They're aren't really any Irish neighborhoods left in Boston. You have some families still owning houses in Southie, concentrations in some areas like Dorchester,, Hyde Park,, etc. For example, but the vast majority of people living in Southie are not Irish townies but rather mostly young professionals who have moved into and gentrified the entire area completely. Same with Charlestown, all the Irish are gone, even the white housing project isn't Irish anymore or even white, nothing at all left of these "irish" neighborhoods and definitely positively nothing left of the Winter Hill mob...everyone's dead, the bars and businesses are all gone and changed 100%. None of this exists in reality anymore and anyone who lives here can easily confirm all this...

The Winter Hill Gang is an ethnic stew made up of several different crews that are loosely connected. There is not one leader of the gang. You just have leaders of crews who are more influential than others. Yes, they are definitely still around.

I come from NYC. And I tell you now, without a doubt, there are NO more Irish strongholds within the Big Apple. Not a one!

Are there former Irish-dominated neighborhoods that still retain a small smattering of Irish residents? Definitely! But "strongholds?" No way. No how....Period!

Chicago still has a very strong Irish presence on the south side! There’s a few Irish social clubs as well that have guys who are members who are also connected.

With all due respect RS, I strongly strongly doubt there is any significant type of "Irish Mob" presence in Chicago today. Or any other city nowadays worth discussing.

The Italian mob itself, The "Outfit," is admittedly on its last legs. They're on a respirator for God sakes. Do you REALLY think the Irish are any stronger? If anything, they are but a bleep on the radar screen. Are there a few mobsters of Irish ethnicity left in Chicago? I don't doubt there are. Very few at that! But a recognized "Irish Mob." I seriously doubt it!

I don't disagree NYM it's not like the old days but there are still Irish pubs and clubs in the big cities and there are still Irish immigrants coming to the mentioned cities.

Yes, intermittently sprinkled throughout major cities. But they are NOT hoodlums. Organized crime makes up only a small microcosm of any given ethnicity. Just because there may be Irish pubs and eateries, does NOT correlate to Irish hoodlums, or Irish organized crime!

The Outfit has made quite a few new guys over the last 15 years who are currently in their 40s and 50s. They are far from being on a respirator sorry to break it to you. I agree with the Irish mob family not being in existence though. You do have a few guys out there that are Irish and connected through being associates of the Outfit but that’s about it.
