Bulger’s death raised questions about why the known “snitch” was placed in the West Virginia prison’s general population instead of more protective housing. The men — Fotios “Freddy” Geas, 55, Paul J. DeCologero, 48, and Sean McKinnon, 36 — were charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege Geas and DeCologero struck Bulger in the head multiple times, causing his death. McKinnon is charged separately with making false statements to a federal agent. Authorities have not revealed a possible motive for Bulger’s killing, which came hours after he was transferred to USP Hazelton in West Virginia from a prison in Florida. He had been serving a life sentence for 11 murders and other crimes. DeCologero was part of an organized crime gang led by his uncle on Massachusetts’ North Shore called the “DeCologero Crew.” He was convicted of buying heroin that was used to try to kill a teenage girl his uncle wanted dead because he feared she would betray the crew to police. The heroin didn’t kill her, so another man broke her neck, dismembered her and buried her remains in the woods, court records say.

Whitey got what Whitey deserved, kudos to those gentlemen
. . I certainly didnt feel bad for him. He did so many horrible things as a criminal including killing at least two women He was another creepy fuck who indiscriminately killed men, women, and children alike for over four decades, and then became a rat to boot. He got "exactly" what he deserved! Fuck James (Whitey) Bulger. Let him burn!

By 6:13 a.m., Geas and DeCologero leave Bulger’s cell, and with McKinnon head back to the cell shared by Geas and McKinnon. At 8:07 a.m., Bulger is found dead in his bed by prison authorities. At Monday’s hearing, Nowalk said three inmates have said that Geas, DeCologero or McKinnon made admissions to them about Bulger’s slaying, including one who alleged that DeCologero claimed he and Geas “used a belt with a lock attached to it and beat Mr. Bulger to death.” Witnesses also say McKinnon admitted he stood as lookout while Geas and DeCologero killed Bulger, she said. One witness testified before a grand jury that he asked McKinnon and DeCologero if they were the guys that killed Bulger and they said they were. “That same inmate indicated that Pauly [DeCologero] told him that Bulger was a snitch,” Nowalk said. “Pauly said as soon as they saw Bulger come into the unit, they planned to kill him.”

The part that makes no sense to me is these two other guys were not doing life
Geas was I get why he did it, for a couple of reasons he will be a celebrity now on the inside.
However, he will be shipped to ADU/SUPERMAX
I guess when you have a life sentence you feel you have nothing to lose.
I say the Irish guy will flip he was only the look out, they will probably give him 20 years in protective custody.
This story makes no sense why he would be put in gen Pop they knew he was a target.
I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but nothing makes much sense here.
Other than dead men tell no tales.

Maybe someone in with a lot of connections was worried his name would surface at some point so why take the risk?
Wasn't his defense at trial that he was working for the FBI...
They could have transferred him to a prison hospital.
