During his lifetime and extensive underworld career, Tony Romeo became widely known throughout the law enforcement community and local media as Binghamton’s “gambling czar.”

Initially, Tony Romeo seemed to know almost everyone within Binghamton’s underworld.

Yet, the New York State Police and Binghamton Police Department generally viewed Romeo as an influential “independent” type gambler who was not “connected” to any Mafia Family, per se.

It was only after a deeper investigation into his affairs and through the use of several well-placed police informants that Federal and State law enforcement authorities learned that Antonio (Tony) Romeo was, in fact, a key operative and top criminal “associate” of the Barbara/Bufalino Family, who operated under the guidance and protection of then-underboss Rosario (Russ) Bufalino.

Interesting the "Romeo" family name goes back to the end of the 19th century in calabrian organized crime.

This particular biography is about one of Upstate New York's top mobbed-up racketeers and gambling kingpins. A little known hoodlum to the general public, who was nonetheless extremely well known to both the Mafia and law enforcement.

But what makes this particular story so compelling (in my opinion) is the fact that during my research for Romeo's bio ButtonGuys had uncovered a laundry list of top upstate hoodlums and gamblers connected to the Bufalino and Magaddino Families who doubled as years-long Federal Informants.

I include and expose these stool pigeons for your perusal. Where possible, I also include their FBI Informant Code names and numbers next to the informers real name.

This is yet another BUTTONGUYS OF THE NEW YORK MAFIA "EXCLUSIVE"

Hollander, you GOTTA read this story. You'll fall off your chair when you see all the rats operating with, and surreptitiously against, mafia members upstate NY. Joe Barbara, Russ Bufalino, and Steve Magaddino being paramount among them.

One of your best works NYMafia. Always curious to learn about the Bufalino and Buffalo family's reach. These outliers ran entire cities as the man.

Thank you very much BarrettM. I found this particular guy, and by proxy who he represented, to be very interesting info as well. Glad you enjoyed the story.
