This topic may have been brought up; but did

Carmine Persico or Little Allie Boy Persico know that Greg Scarpa was a “rat”??

Larry Mazza stated on Facebook that Carmine Persico knew for 20 years but turned a blind-eye.

I’m not a big Larry Mazza fan; but I would like some feedback!

“I called your f—— house five times yesterday, now, if you’re going to disregard my m—– f—— phone calls, I’ll blow you and that f —— house up… This is not a f—— game. My time is valuable. If I ever hear anybody else calls you and you respond within five days, I’ll f—— kill you.” ~ John Gotti.

@ThisGuyOverHere

I agree; I don’t believe a thing that comes out of Larry Mazza’s mouth…

I don’t care how capable Greg Scarpa was but I find it hard to believe that Persico would allow a “informant” to operate in his family for “20 years” as a “rat”.

Did ya's see that video with the fat kid Steele and Mazza ?? The kid said he went to Carmine Sessa and said it looks like he's using the same gun, and Messa told him keep that to yourself.....If that's true, he shouldn't have just suspected Scarpa, he should have suspected Sessa, no matter his rank...And Cessa rolled

Persico did not know it, he may have heard the rumors and not believed them. Persico was a very tough man, but not the smartest boss.

During his era 80’s early
He was probably the most feared Gangster in Bensonhurst,

Even so there were rumblings of him being “NO-GOOD”

Do I think Persico knew for sure?
No he did not

Did he know yeah

He had more bodies than anyone in the street
And he had no cases against him.

Everyone knew that he had sources in L.E. as he didn’t try to hide it.

He was an in your face out there in the open with a HUGE CREW, it’s not like he was a low key old timer that stayed away and had no heat.

The logical conclusion was he was “NO-GOOD”

With all that said he was still kicking up money and
And he was still killing people.

Everyone on the street knew that if you were working with the feds you couldn’t commit murder.
So that gave everyone doubt.

Remember he was Orena’s first target
Amount other things was suspected of being a rat.

That was a long time b4 it came out official.

This explanation makes a lot of sense. How could Persico *NOT* at least suspect that Scarpa had some sort of access to key people with such a massive body count and no heat?

I'd tend to think this makes a lot of sense - don't ask any questions, and just accept the obvious benefits that are coming from the arrangement; the Grim Reaper is getting guys whacked and nobody seems to bee asking any questions about it.

Makes Whitey Bulger's deal look like child's play.

I'm sure a lot of guys in Brooklyn suspected he may have been a rat. But because they knew he was a half a nut job lots of guys also feared him. So they kept quiet.

I believe that may be the "true" reason why Greg's brother Sal Scarpa was set up and killed. Because he may have found out about Greg and confronted him about it. Or was threatening to tell the borgata. (my personal opinion on this matter). In my own mind I wonder if Greg killed his own blood to keep that secret...He never made an inquiry, or a squawk about Sal's death. I find that a bit strange.

This whole thing began when Greg found out about Matty Ianiello (not the horse) being an informant. Matty was close to Sal. The theory is that Greg warned Sal about Matty but Sal didn't like what he was hearing. I wouldn't be surprised if Greg admitted to his brother how he knew which probably caused a nasty reaction from Sal, who was known as stand up as they came. Intel later revealed that Philly Paradiso was part of the hit team. He was also the only member of the hit team who was masked, the only one who was unarmed and the only one who was white too. Yeah, they used black guys! Needless to say, the masked guy is the one who pointed out Sal. Never do a hit inside a crowded social club, especially with Messy Marvin inside lol

That’s how they killed Sal?
With Marvin inside?

Scarpa's son said that the rumors started years before it was revealed, and nothing came of it. He said in the book neighborhood guys who did a few burglaries with Scarpa were all arrested, but Scarpa was not even questioned or picked up. How true that is is up to people to believe or not.

They definitely had their doubts about him but most likely disregarded them after seeing how brutal he was, and didn't the FBI wouldn't allow that...We know better now

That had to be the reason Persico and others did not believe it. They had no idea the FBI would allow a guy to be out killing people, and doing all those robberies, while working for the FBI. The Scrapa story is amazing, more amazing is he had 2 consecutive FBI handlers who let it go on for almost 30 years.

The one FBI handler he had (Devecchio?) was such a f****** crook. Can't believe he had those charges against him thrown out.

Yes, and he had one before him for many years till DelVechio took over.

This is a book by the FBI agent who was supposedly Scarpa's first handler.
