Zeccardi was , allegedly, the Genovese underboss circa late 70s.
Story is he was kidnapped, ransom paid , never seen again. OR
Tieri had him killed. And then his pal Dequato (sp). In another machiavellian plot by Tieri.
Anyone know anything about these guys or their deaths?

It was more likely Dom Alongi and Vincent Gigante pushed for it with Fat Tony and Tieri going along with it to their boss. Carmine was stepping on a lot of people's toes, he was big in the number game, was going behind other members backs in construction deals, and was meddling in unions. Salerno made mention of the deals to an informant but never implicated himself in Zeccardi disappearance or any others that were involved. Vincent Di Naples carried out the hit of union leader of local 385 Danny Evangelista on orders from Carmine Zeccardi, most likely it was not approved by the boss. Tieri was most likely given the task, as Zeccardi was said to be muscle in on Jersey members numbers such as Tieri numbers, and Carmine did in deed muscle in on Boiardo numbers in the early 1970s. I suspect that Carmine Zeccardi had a hand in the deaths of Angelo Chieppa a soldier and John Malanga an associate of Boiardo crew, if not then he may have been secretly backing Angelo to create dissension in the crew, cause by 1974, Zeccardi grapped a huge chunk of Boiardo number game. I have no concrete evidence just a theory on Chieppa and Malanga deaths. Dequato was involved in the numbers game, loansharking which was Zeccardi money, and served as a bodyguard to Zeccardi. Dont have more on Dequato.

His name was actually spelled Dominick DeQuatro, aka "Dom the Sailor"

Thanks guys ^^^@Giacomo_Vacari
When you say " going along with it to the boss" are you saying Lombardo?

If we think Lombardo was virtually retired circa 78/79. Who carried the most ' clout ' out of Salerno, Chin or Funzi. At that time?

The admin must of put out the kidnapped story, to create some doubt. Wonder if the the 2 bodies were ever found.

That family is different class to the other cn families. Least rats etc. I mean is there even a book by any ex member or associate of the Genovese? Apart from Valachi

What gets me about the Mafia is all the backstabbing and double-crossing within the Families, no wonder there's so many rats.

Just finished ' Joe dogs ' book. What you said is exactly what happens.
Hiding scams, money ,etc from each other. And yes ,informing.
Dogs was informing before his Agro beating.
Not bad book, though. Bits of colombos and Gambinos.

NYMafia, it was the son Dom The Soldier. A member of the Jersey faction of the family. He lived on into the late 1980s and was spared out of respect for his father also he was in the dark on many of Carmines dealings, shelved not long after Zeccardi went missing. Unshelved sometime during the Chins reign. Really do not have much info on him.
Tieri ran the New Jersey faction as he seen fit, but all important matters went to the boss. Yes I do believe Lombardo was offical boss. Also Zeccardi had friends and allies not only in the Genovese family, but other families as well, so it stands to reason the family would use the kidnapping charade to protect themselves from other mobster looking for revenge.

Giacomo_Vacari, I heard what you're saying and you are technically right, but the son also had the nickname of "Dom the Sailor." I know that some documents list his nickname as "Dom the Soldier" but I believe he was more commonly referred to on the streets as "The Sailor" also, same as his father. I never heard anybody call him "The Soldier." He was very close to Tommy and Patty Ryan and like Eboli, "Cokey Dom" Alongi, and others who later relocated to NJ, Dom the Sailor still used to hang around Lower Manhattan almost everyday. He was a common fixture along Mulberry Street and in The Village.
