One of the books I’ve read has it that supposedly Gotti got his marching orders to kill McBratney from Carlo directly. He bragged to his guys about meeting with him.

But do you think he ever did? Gotti was not a made guy in 1973 or at any time Carlo was alive. He got made in IIRC June 1977. He was Acting Capo for Fatico from 72-77 but emphasis on Acting.

Would Carlo have personally met with Gotti, and more to the point, directly given him an order to kill, this late?

As I understand it, Carlo rarely went out after 1970, due to health reasons and also due to increasing federal scrutiny. And he put Paul in as Street Boss in 67 to insulate himself.

So what do you guys think the truth is?

Was it Gotti Bsing to his guys to look more important than he was, or did he take orders from Carlo directly?

Another flaw in Gotti claiming to meet Carlo is, wouldn’t Carlo have passed the hit on McBratney down through Neil. So isn’t it more likely the order descended from Carlo - Paul - Neil - Gotti?

It was an important hit, so Dellacroce would have brought Gotti to meet with Carlo Gambino, meaning this is the guy I want in charge of the hit. Gambino didn't have to have a word, only a nod or a shake of his head.
Gotti could have met with Gambino and no words could be exchanged with Dellacroce doing all or most of the talking.

So here’s a question

If you’re still gonna give direct orders to Capos on matters such as murders, why have a Street/Front Boss? Isn’t the whole point of a Street Boss to be the lightning rod, to confuse the Feds? To tighten the chain of command such that whoever the Front Boss is, is day to day the Boss, as far as the troops are concerned, in case anyone is talking out of school?

I actually don't think that Gotti ever claimed to have met Gambino. That was all Hollywood for their Gotti movie. But McBratney hit aside, I would like to know if the two ever actually met.

In reality, I think Gotti somewhere down the road , did meet Don Carlo..but..as 4 the hit on Mc Bratney..NO..it was done through the chain of command ie/ Neil..that's how John got his jumpstart...by the way, Aprile, good call on that subject.

.
. Agreed. The 1996 Gotti move is a much better film than the 2018 Crap fest film BUT it also had so many inaccuracies

It's ironic that the 1996 Gotti movie had a lot of inaccuracies, but at the same time there's many events that occurred in Gotti's mob career that wasn't in the movie. I think it was too short, should've been as long as The Godfather or Casino. It was still pretty good though.

What’s crazy is he wasn’t made but was acting captain.

So he didn’t have his button, but the guys with the buttons were reporting to him for years.

And they were ok with it.

Gotti 96 is grossly overrated. Especially since Franzese put it over as great. Personally, I found the inaccuracies to be bordering a full on fluff piece. Like the part where Ang makes a racist joke and John chastises him, telling him, “..one planet, one people” or some bullshit like that. Anyhoo, it’s not good source material for mafia history.

I personally thought every Gotti movie SUCKED…
I would never watch any of them again.

It very well could be that GOTTI is just played out.
Was more than but still is today.

Didnt Gotti use the n word daily? I may be wrong but Im pretty sure he was known for referring to blacks and hispanics as garbage. Kinda funny since so many of them revere him and many rapper use his name

Gotti was old-school, that's just how it was. He even insulted other Italians. Let's not get all politically correct on here, put your superhero cape back in your closet.

Sounds like you are. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're casting judgment on Gotti for his old-school viewpoints.

Where did I cast judgment? You need to step up your assumption game or drink less. If you only knew what I think of blacks lol

Could Gotti have met him AFTER the hit? I don't know the timeline perfectly as I never followed the Gambino's like that, but could have Carlo met with him afterwards for a "job well done" type of thing?

I'm surprised John Alite hasn't claimed to have driven Gotti to the meet

I agree, in fact many people seemed to have taken the 1996 movie as accurate and make assumptions based on that crappy movie. Jr closed the door on him with that shit show with the always scowling Travis playing Sr. That was a film travesty.

That "film" was a complete disaster. Embarrassingly bad for everyone involved.

The absolute worst scene was Neil explaining to John what the five boroughs are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZoaWSkht0M (17 sec)

No redeeming qualities whatsoever, it was just complete garbage.

Saw the Travolta version at a showing at an Indie theatre. Laughed a few times at horrible the acting was, and walked out 45 mins in. To date, it is the worst movie I've ever seen, and I generally have a soft spot for mob films.
