That was Carlo Lombard. He tried August 1, fired four shots missed, and was punched and thrown out. He tried a week later with a machine gun and missed again. He is often described as an associate but was actually a loner. There are two stories. 1) Someone paid Lombardi to kill a mobster in the Gambino family that hung around the club. 2) This is the one I feel is true. Lombardi ran into a member of the Dellacroce crew member in July. Carlo had doubled parked in front of the soldier's car, and the soldier is said to have to go to a meeting in a hurry. He seen Lombardi just sitting in his car, and Carlo blew him off, which angered the soldier. He grabbed him from his car and started to beat Lombardi in front of people of the street. Lombardi felt disrespected and vowed to get even with the guy.
Carlo body was found two days later on August 10. The killers were most likely Peter Salanardi and Nick Musolino two associates of the Dellacroce crew.
