In the 1980s there were between 20-23 crews

How many now?

It's probably about the same. 22-23 crews would be my guess. There's a few crews missing from those charts

But you had to play it cool, had to do it your way

Well, don't forget the acting captains and sometimes an acting captain has an acting captain. You'll see that when the official one is away. The Gambinos have had the most crews for a good while, but some of those crews are very small.

I think they are in name only, but there will be a few people saying they are active. Daniel Marino has probably not been active for years, the same goes for most of the other older members listed. However they were big names, so informants looking to get a deal or just get an FBI agent to listen to them will put those well known names out.

There's a lot of unknown people or sleepers in the mob, that won't even be revealed until future roundups and revelations, as always.

None of them are productive. Trust me. This life is over. At this point, all they have are members who aren't doing anything. It's a bunch of guys who wanna belong to something that once was

Ha, let's see you sing that same tune when more indictments drop similar to Richard Martino's $800 million-dollar internet porn scam or Tom Farese's $90 million-dollar healthcare fraud scheme. Doing nothing my ass.

These indictments are extraordinarily rare. The porn scam was 20 years ago. I'm not sure how old you are, but there was a time when the mob made the news almost every single day. There was indictment after indictment, murder after murder. Today? Almost no indictments. The last mob murder in NY was almost 10 years ago. You're delusional if you believe the mob of today is in any way similar to the one that at one time controlled entire industries and even appointed judges.

I by no means think that they're out there appointing judges, or controlling entire industries. But they do have some serious money rolling in and I believe they've forged close ties to other crime syndicates. Bodies don't have to drop everywhere for that to be true, because we all know what that entails.

The mafia never appointed judges, that is a myth.

Thats not true!

One example is Judge Thomas Aurelio. He was appointed by Frank Costello. Aurelio was even caught on a wiretap professing his "undying loyalty to Don Francesco" for his appointment. It's all documented. There were others in NYC and elsewhere as well. The Chicago Outfit was prolific at it.

I personally know about 6 inducted members that do not show up on any lists guys i grew up with.

I haven't been actively involved with anyone in many many years now, so i am not even close to being in the know as the comings and the goings of all that are involved.

With that said I cant see how any poster on this board is in a position to know everything about every crew as a whole to make a universal statement as to "NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING"

You have the West Side by design is purposely not divulging boss and/or made member status to its fullest extent. This has been their strategy for many, many years.

How could any poster know the size of any crews Rackets when they are NOT involved in that crew.

So someone on here is going to know the size a Captains Shy Book? that has Hundreds and Hundreds of thousands of dollars on the streets?
Or a younger made guy out of where ever that has $100K on the streets?

Or if the West Side is shaking down a businessman in the construction industry for $10K, $20K, $30K a month?

I posted years ago about the merchant Cash advance business and that I personally know more than a few crews making money hand over fist in that industry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to unwritten rules of this board if its not in the paper in the form of an indictment it does not exist.

Theres so many guys who don't show up on the lists its almost unbelievable but that life is so fucking different today that I kind of get why people say its dead. No productive crews? Is that being based on lack off indictments? Ok well I guess that depends on what you consider a proper mafia crew. Killings? Involvement in multiple rackets? Yep those days are pretty much over. Liggio is right though. Tom Mix, Andy Campos and a few others are making big money

BensonHURST is 100% on the money.

I don't live in the USA so I can't make any claims about the American mob, but over here where I live there are a lot of serious guys involved in organized crime that are not publicly known names. I figure that if it's like that in a bumfuck place where I live, there must be a lot of the same things happening in places like NYC, Chicago or Detroit.
As long as you're not actively involved in the life, you can never actually know what's going on and who's involved.

Organized crime is a shadow world in itself. What the public knows and what the media can tell you is only scratching the surface.

No, if you are thinking of the Kennedy election that is another conspiracy theory that has been out there for many years. Let someone put up a list of all the judges the mafia appointed. None. They have had a few who they could bribe back in the day, but they never had a say in appointments. In fact judges are hardest on the mafia in their sentencing,

Luciano got 40 years, Genovese got two long sentences almost back to back,, Lepke got the electric chair. Sounds harsh to me.
Joe Massino spoke of 2 members of his crew getting sent to the electric chair in the 1950's. Call me a liberal, I find dying in prison and getting the electric chair harsh. The reason few got long sentences is no one ratted on them.

It's only 5 examples; how many mafiosi (or even bosses alone) were there in the USA during several decades? Harsh sentences against high-ranking members started becoming more frequent starting from the 80s more or less.

The angle you are coming from is unfair, considering most mob bosses back then (before the 1980s) were hardly brought to trial to begin with, to even have a chance at harsh sentences.

So I dont dont really have the time and I really dont know how the researchers on the board access the info they do.
I am so very impressed though with the info they are able to access and appreciate the time that is spent compiling it all.

With that said did LCN, work with the CIA?

Did Hoffa not get a Pardon?
Make no mistake Hoffa was Hoffa because LCN, made him, and when they were done, well you see what happened.

So coming to Hoffa/teamsters to help win an election that is controlled by LCN, is coming to LCN, to get elected.

Was Luciano not let out of prison?

What about Jack Tocco's sentence in Detroit?
That judge wasn't in his pocket?

That has to be the shortest racketeering sentence given ever
It was less than guys get that cooperate.

Do I know off the top of my head the specific name of a judge they were able to get appointed.
I dont.

N.Y. Mafia or one of the other researchers I am certain could help us out with this.
