The Gotti family was living in Mount Vernon, NY, just blocks from the Carfano family in the 1920s. In their teens John Gotti's father, John Joseph Gotti, Sr. ran the streets with Ed Carfano and some other troublemakers in what seems to have been a youth gang, pulling burglaries and whatnot.

Anyone know much about this?

I'm interested in hearing more about the youth gangs of NY, in general, which served as a training ground for many mobsters. It is said that Anthony Carfano likely cut his teeth with the Oliver and Cherry Street youth gangs.
