The Vor got specific rules, like never work, don’t get married, never work with the government etc. But many members of the Russian Mafia or other ex-countries of the USSR dont respect those rules.
Are they still considered Vor ? Or are they simply a Bratva or Mafia group?
Not all Russian, Georgian criminal that is part of a Bratva is a Vor?
I read somewhere that now, 90% of the Vor come from Georgia.
Also, after WW2, there was a war in many prison of the USSR, between prisoners who did military service during the war and those who refuse because of the rules of the Vor to never work with thé governwment. Did this war separate de Vor (thief in laws) and the criminals that will work with the governement ? Those same guys are the one we think when we imagine the russian mafia, corruption and there hands deep in thé governwment pocket

Today, quite a lot of Vory v Zakone don't respect those rules, even though they are still recognized as Vory by others. There are plenty of them who have their own legal business, are married, or have convictions for crimes that "in theory" should preclude them the possibilty of becoming Vory, like rape, drug trafficking etc (even though as far as drugs are concerned, they are often planted on them by the police, as the easiest way to send them to prison).
In my opinion, the most powerful Russian criminals aren't Vory though, since that status still puts some limits on them: for example, if a Vor is publicly asked whether he is a Vor, and says no, that's considered "dishonorable", even if it's the police or a journalist who asks that. But of course the smartest ones will deny it anyway though...
Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:
1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."
2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."

It's one of the stranger OC ones I have heard.
