The Nutmeg State always had their fair share of mobsters and racketeers. How active do you think the mob is nowadays in the various traditional cities where they operated in Connecticut?

Hartford, Bridgeport, Stratford, New Haven, Stamford, New Britain, Waterbury, etc?

CT is traditionally cut between Genovese (west) and Patriarca (east). The Geno sure have presence there, dunno about Boston.

Here's a recent (2018) article - https://www.masslive.com/news/2018/07/federal_judge_sentences_new_ha.html

Yes those two crews were always the most active aside from Patriarca family in Eastern CT as you mentioned. But as of today?? What do you imagine their presence is?

IMO the Gambino's always had the largest footprint in CT., followed by the Genovese. There were several fairly far-flung Gambino crews operating simultaneously. Whereas the Genovese had a solid presence as well, but not as diversified in membership and reach.

although conrad ianniello is currently imprisoned would he have still operated in the state?
or is there any members of his crew continuing his rackets.

eugene o'nofrio has also been mentioned but not sure if it is because he lives in connecticut?
he has also been mentioned as a crew leader in manhattan and springfield, mass.?

could find no current info on the gambinos after the death of anthony megale and not aware of who he had in his crew.

the name ignazio alonga also comes up. he may have looked after connecticut crew while megale was acting boss/underboss in early 2000's.
as of 2019 he was still alive.

Ianniello was never a CT guy. He just oversaw what they had up there from long distance. O'nofrio was a CT guy but he too was kinda split, handling stuff downtown NY that for me didn't make sense. Years back they had Vinny Pollina, Sabby Basso, Vito Sabia, Midge Annunziata, the Curcio brothers, etc. All of whom lived and operated there.

But the Gambino crew have always had a large presence up that way where they also resided. Going back before even Frank Piccolo, Guido Penosi, and Tommy DeBrizzi, to guys like Ippolito Agresta, Willy the Creep Conforte, Paulie Legs, etc.

But to be sure, those two outfits were the most prominent. (aside from Patriarca's who actually had a limited presence by comparison).

What about the other families (Lucchese, Bonanno, Colombo, Philly and DeCavalcante)? Do they still have a presence in New England?

Conrad Ianniello has been out for awhile now. He’s a Bronx guy not anything with CT

The Lucchese and Bonanno crews never had a presence in CT to speak of. And the Colombo crew hasn't had any representation there since the days of "Whitey" Tropiano who was a soldier (and later became an informant). He got clipped for being a rat around 1980-81 if my memory serves me correctly. They lured him back to Brooklyn and shot him dead.

Philly never had a presence in CT, and the DeCavalcante crew were very strong at one time years back in the City of Waterbury, and to a lesser degree in New Britain. But with the demise of the LeSelva brothers faction, they too are defunct in the state.

Gambino and Genovese. And a few Patriarca men. Thats the long and the short of it in recent years. Today? Who knows. I'm sure they still have a presence, but its a much smaller footprint for sure. The poser is mostly gone I believe.

well dang a question was asked answers were given no one went off on a tangent about something unrelated...solid work.
i guess in conclusion we can say that there is an outside chance that either the genovese, gambinos or the patriarca family may still operate in the state.
however without any recent indictments it goes on the defunct or currently inactive list.

Now Massachusetts is whole other story. The Gambino's never had a strong presence in the state. On the other hand the Genovese crew has always been a significant player there, both in the Cities of Springfield and Worcester where they held sway, and in many little towns and villages sprinkled in between. The two most prominent of their ilk being; Capodecina Francesco Iaconi in Worcester, and Capodecina Salvatore Cufari in Springfield. Both men operated semi-autonomous crews there for decades.

Here are a couple of articles about the Patriarca CT mob recent history. There was a current CT mobster who died suddenly this year and his name escapes me. He was young for Mob purposes.

Patriarcas have Salvatore "Butch" D'Aquila in Middletown,Mariano Grasso.
Genoveses have Gus Curcio
Nick Melia was a gambino associate in Stamford (he died in may 2021) that was robbed and linked to napoleon andraste murder.
Colombo had Vincent "Jimmy Mele" Melia died in 1983 and George tropiano died in 1991.

Jimmy Mele came from Brooklyn and was never active in CT to the best of my knowledge. George Tropiano was another Brooklyn guy. Never active in CT. His brother Ralph (Whitey) Tropiano was Connecticut based after he was half chased out of NY years ago.

Interesting. He was very young at only 61 to "buy the farm."
