What do you guys think? Did Vinny's crazy act diminish his Cosa Nostra Legacy?

How could it diminish his legacy when it's part of his legacy? His crazy act kept him out of prison and on the streets to run the Genovese Family all those years. If not for his act, as well as his use of puppet bosses, he would've went to prison long before they actually got him.

He killed Gravano's best friend and listen to how Gravano talks about him...He doesn't lie to try and diminish him, he talks in awe about him !!

Not at all. If anything, it bolsters it that he was willing to go that far. Vincent still had millions, a mistress, and to him what was most important - POWER. If the concept of the "boss of all bosses" is true - Gigante held that title for the longest from 81-97 or so and he was feared long before that.

On the contrary; it made him even more of a legend. It's all about the power and Vincent Gigante had that in spades. He was both highly respected and very much feared. Going against him basically meant that you ended up in some river.

It was a smart move on his part that obviously worked for him for a long time. I think It was well known in the mob world that he was ruthless and it was an act for the gov’t

I wonder if it did a better job of buying him more time on the streets, or added to the attention he received from LE.

The spotlight was already on him, that was the whole purpose for his act to begin with.

This is where Chin and Gotti were very similar. They both brought attention, albeit different but attention is attention. Does it matter that one guy wore a $2000 suit and the other a bath robe?

What a stupid ridiculous comment, Gotti only lasted 5 years on the streets Gigante lasted decades. And the attention was already on Gigante, that was why he was doing his act to begin with. With Gotti, his antics brought attention, with Gigante it was the other way around, the attention caused his antics.

And one other thing, Gotti wasn't convicted based on his wardrobe, he was convicted for confessing his entire criminal history on tape for the whole world to hear.
