It's been years since I watched the whole series. Isn't that Vito? Was he not yet a character in the show or what?

At the time,Joe Gannascoli was only hired to play the bakery patron in that one episode (The legend of Tennessee Moltisanti). Later, he was given the Vito Spatafore role.
Don't know if you caught it,but when the bakery worker says "you shot me in the foot",Chris says "it happens" as he's leaving.
Pretty cute throwback to when Tommy shoots Spider (Imperioli) in the foot in Goodfellas.

That's what I figured happened. Man he turned out to be a great character.

The foot comment turned me off originally, I wanted the show to be stand alone and not piggyback on other movies. I still can't stand episode 1 with the comedic type voice over. Now the foot comment is funny to me though.

I can't remember if it's the same episode, but when Tony tells Christopher who the cop was and Chris ambushes him in his house...was that really even the right guy or just Tony using Chris to do a piece of work and at the same time earning more undying loyalty from Chris?

I always thought Tony was conning him with that one. Again, I haven't watched the whole run for years.

I'm not going to give out a spoiler, but if you get a chance to see "The Many Saints of Newark", you'll get an answer to your question.

Lou right on but even that to me from the recent movie leaves you to still have some questions

They don't reveal who pulled the trigger in the movie.

I think Haydu did do it though. His expression in reaction to Chris saying the name Dickie Moltisanti was one of "....oh shit." He's also screaming "I'm Sorry! I'm Sorry!"as he's crawling away right before Chris shoots him. I don't think Tony would have Chris kill a cop, retired or otherwise, just to tie them closer together. Tony could have just as easily ordered Chris or anyone else to kill Barry and not given a reason to do it. We don't hear anything about Barry before or after, he's a retired cop. Could have possibly been on the payroll. Tony alludes to the fact that he was "useful". In the podcast "Talking Sopranos" they ask Chase about this and he said that he wrote the scene as if Barry was definitely involved, but also that Tony may have not been 100% honest with Chris about the circumstances. Obviously Tony wasn't involved when Dickie was killed as he was a teenager and we can surmise that Tony probably wasn't aware of who was behind the killing or why. Even if he got confirmation Barry pulled the trigger.

As i mentioned,I don't want to give out any spoilers, but it's true that the actual gunman isn't seen.
I'm referring to the back story and the actual person who gave the order.
I agree that going by just watching the series, that it was Haydu, but that's assuming Tony was given correct info.
He might not even be aware of the actual details of Dickie's death.
i feel that the movie threw a little curve at us as far as who gave the order, but that is only my opinion, and nothing more.
