I’ve been meaning to post this for a while but forgot about Anthony Tortorello’s name until today…

He was a captain in the Lucchese’s and was able to get a “pass” for insulting Vincent Gigante…by saying he was a drug dealer and profiting from drugs.

Gigante heard of this and ordered Tortorello to be killed but Anthony Casso saved him….

Casso is a ruthless guy; Him saving Tortorello is kind of “out of the ordinary” How was he able to do this??

My question is; Why did Casso save him??? Tortorello insulted a boss of another family and pretty much called Gigante a drug dealer.

Why was Torterello saved?? Was he close with Casso and did they have business dealings???

Would love to know!

probably because of the money Tortorello was bringing in and the heat it would bring in the event he was clipped off.

Anthony Tortorello did insult Gigante, but Casso had nothing to do with saving him from every account ever put put about it. He was supposed to be beaten up badly, but his friends who were captains faked it. Anthony Tortorello wore a fake cast to make it look like he had his arm broken. I think it was reported by Capeci also. I also think he was not a captain.

@Jace

From all accounts; He was saved by Casso (bizzare knowing how ruthless Casso was)

Didn’t Gigante put a hit out on Tortorello?? He wasn’t simply “suppose to be beaten up”

Either there was no hit put out, or a deal was worked out. We can never know for sure since so many different stories are out there

I think the story of Casso saving Tortorello sounds about right, I mean, think about it, if a Mafia soldier insulted a powerful boss like Gigante, it would take another powerful Mafioso like Casso to save him.

Agreed. It’s just kind of mind-blowing that Casso would do that with how ruthless he was. “Saving his own guy” from a feared Gigante…

Because it was his guy. Maybe the guy was bringing in a lot of money. Or maybe it was an ego thing, he couldn't let Gigante or anyone get over on him.
