I'm assuming most of you are Christians, so...

When do you start watching Christmas films? I usually start watching them about the second week of November. That gives you about 6 weeks to enjoy them. Anyway... what are your favorite holiday movies? I like It's A Wonderful Life. It's a great film, and the scenes seem to be taken straight out of the Mob films of the 40's. I also like A Christmas Story, which takes place in the 40's. Even in Christmas films I like that era the best. Also, that Christmas scene in the Godfather where the "Have yourself a merry Christmas" song plays is a classic holiday scene.

Usually Thanksgiving night. There's always a Christmas movie on at 8:00. I think it's Miracle on 34th Street or It's a Wonderful life. The day after Thanksgiving is generally the start of Christmas shopping, so the malls have the music going to put you in the mood.

The 2 movies I mentioned are among my favorites. I like all the classic cartoons, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, Santa Clause is coming to town, etc. etc. etc.

When DIE HARD has become a holiday classic...lol.

Ya I start watching them during my Christmas break. My favorites include NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION, A CHRISTMAS STORY, BAD SANTA(well the "BADDER" SANTA DVD actually. Billy Bob Thorton was amazing in it.), the DIE HARD movies, etc.

Speaking of which, that CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS looks "K"rap, yes?

I consider myself to be an avid appreciater of Holiday Films. But I only believe they should be viewed in the month of December. One movie that no holiday season is complete with, is the classic Rudolph movie on TV. Another one that I really love is Home Alone. But one that you must be sure not to watch until Christmass Eve, is A Christmass Story which is repeated for 24 hours on TNT From Christmass Eve, to Christmass Day Evening. This is a ritual I provide for myself, and I have never gone one year without having viewed these movies at least once during the holiday season.

Yeah, Christmas Vacation is a classic Thanksgiving dinner movie.

I can never wait until TNT's Christmas Story marathon Christmas Eve. I watched it like 6 times last year, out of the total like 15 times it was on that day.

I start watching them in November because by December, Christmas TV episodes are on especially on TV Land all the time... so more time for that.

I start watching them when they put them on TV. :p

Seriously though, I have a handful of classics on VHS (Christmas Vacation, etc.) that I keep handy in case I happen to miss the actual television screening(s).

Why would you assume that only Christians would watch "Christmas films"?

There were many films cited already in this thread which would appeal to people of any religion, not to mention other "Christian themed" films such as "Ben Hur", for example.

I am actually looking forward to seeing Polar Express. I remember that book from elementary school, and I really liked it.

My favorite Christmas movie is probably Home Alone.

I don't know, plawrence. In my foolish assumption that most people here were Christian and watched Christmas films, I forgot to cite Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Shintos, Hindus, etc. that weren't Christian yet enjoyed to watch films that centered around the Christian holiday of Christmas. True wisdom, such as yours, eludes me.

Nothing foolish about that assumption. You're probably right.

Right again. Why cite any religion? That's what I didn't understand in your original post.

Three for three.

BTW, to get back to the original topic, I like the original "Die Hard", "Home Alone", and "National Lampoon's Christams Vacation", although they are not really what I would consider "Christmas films".

A truly great one, though, which I always enjoy is "A Christmas Carol".

Home alone is the perfect hangover movie. You know what I mean, you wake up a little groggy, you don't want to do anything to strenuous so pray for films like Home Alone, Naked Gun, Waynes World or anything with Dan Akroyd in.

Anyway, Christmas is years away, chill out.

I'm borrowing It's a Wonderful Life at the moment, actually, but at two and a half hours, I'm waiting until I find some digestible time...

Home Alone 1 and 2 are my favourites. Two of my very favourites; last year, I ended up watching Jingle All The Way on TV for about the seventh time. Besides from Jake Lloyd's abysmal acting, I thorooughly enjoyed it (and anyway, with a Christmas movie, who cares!?).

Please write what you think of the movie, Mick.

After reading this thread last night I watched the movie again (kind of got me in the mood).

Since I'm vcr/dvd-challenged....as soon as they begin airing !!

Seriously though, I begin looking forward to Christmas films just after Thanksgiving. However, I found myself thinking about 'A Christmas Story' last week! It's become one of my faves; also the cartoon specials, especially Charlie Brown and Rudolph from the 1960's.

Fox Family Channel has the annual 25 days of Christmas where they air only Christmas movies/specials from Dec. 1st right through Christmas Day...that's always fun too, though I skip many of the films because some can be boring.

Oh, this thread is going to get me in the Christmas spirit! Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, and I go all out for it every year. I set up tons of decorations indoors; I put up the lights outside; I bake various sweets; I go gift shopping; I make crafts as gifts; I listen to Christmas music, and I watch Christmas movies! I suppose I start watching around Thanksgiving, unless some are aired sooner. Thanksgiving is sort of my passage into the Christmas season. I love watching the Macy's Parade on TV, and that's around the time my mom finally allows me to put up the tree, etc. (I played Jingle Bell Rock about a month ago just to annoy her... :p ) Anyway, there's tons of good Christmas movies, but these are some that I've personally enjoyed:

- A Christmas Story
(This is a true classic; it never gets old)

- Christmas Every Day
(Possibly a Disney movie, but one of my favs when I was younger)

- The Christmas List
(I think this comes on the Family Channel a lot...it's really good.)

- The Grinch
(I really liked the Jim Carrey one, but the classic cartoon that always comes on is the best! It just gets me feeling warm and fuzzy!)

- It's A Wonderful Life
(I always knew this was supposed to be a classic, and when I finally saw it, I loved it.)

- Home Alone
(I love 'em! Who doesn't? )

- National Lampoon
(These are always funny...mix in Christmas, and it's awesome! lol)

I also really want to see Polar Express! I remember reading that book in the 5th grade, (I'm a sophomore, now) and it just brings back good memories...and I love Tom Hanks, so I'm sure it'll be wonderful!

Oh, the holidays! I never should've let myself get started!

~Gina
