Are they nearly defunct or what?

Because you never hear anything about them in recent years. I can't even remember the last time I read about any arrest or indictment related to the NE crew.

Is there anything going on up that way

It's been quiet for a few years but they are still there. Last made guys to be sentenced was Billy Angelesco and Tony Parrillo (questionable if he is made) earlier this year.

The Cheeseman is apparently the Boss. A lot of guys that went away after the war in the 90's are out but no longer directly involved. Some good posters on this Board could fill you in (Biggie, Joe Russo etc.)

WPRI in Rhode Island has a great 'Inside the Mafia' section. Great surveillance photos that I had never seen before from the taped induction ceremony in Medford. Vinny Federico, Biagio Digiacomo, Vinny Ferrara, Sonny Mercurio, Ray Jr., even video of J.R. Russo that I had never seen.

I believe the general consensus is that Boston faction is primarily it, RI is on its way out, if not already. I may be completely wrong btw!

They were on their way out when they allowed Joey Merlino to get a foothold in by making Boston Bob. It's one thing to have the Genovese have a crew in Western MA, but having Merlino induct a guy from Boston, the writing was on the wall.

And that guy flipped, so it was probably good that they didn't make him in Boston.

Guglielmetti is definitely the strongest presence out of RI. Still some guys there, but getting older, haven't heard of any new inductions down there.

Guglielmetti Is really it in Prov. Lato's out but who knows. And Guglielmetti isn't young. When he goes it's looking grim RI.

How is taking in a guy who got ran out of Boston, and making him in Philly letting Merlino get a "foothold"?

Imo. Baby shacks was content with a handful of made guys in Rhode island less then 10. And wasnt letting guys in. If matt g is the underboss down there for the last few years he probaly opened the books. Will never know. All his friends from prison threw that decade he just did. There was a article he meets up with philly wiseguys down the Rhode island beaches and Connecticut. Its his state. If he wants I'm sure he could find a dozen guys who were waiting forever in that state cause it seems baby shacks wasnt letting anyone in. Remember to they got recorded in 1989 so I'm betting there induction ceremony is short and sweet. Big cheese probaly let's him do whatever down there. He was made almost 20yrs before him and his brother
