It’s been said in interviews; and back on the streets in the 1970’s and 1980’s that Carmine Persico; and Vincent Gigante had a extreme dislike for eachother.

Do anyone know why they hated each??

Persico was boss before Gigante; Could that be a reason?

Jealousy?? Envy??

Would love some responses!

I didn't know there was bad blood.

Interestingly, during the third Colombo war, Gigante and the Genovese supported the Persico faction. Although, I understand it wasn't about a specific individual and more about supporting the reigning boss and the status quo within the 5 families leadership.

If the Genovese supported the Gallo faction, why has it been reported Gigante insisted the war end and Albert Gallo and P. Illiano be transferred to his crew? My understanding was Gigante was close to Albert and Punchy, giving me reason to think he was sided with the Gallo's. Maybe that's why the dislike later for Persico and not to mention he (Persico) betrayed the Gallos and couldn't be trusted)

Very similar to Big Joey despising Chin for backing the Sonny Red, Big Trin and Phil Lucky rebellion in 1981.

carmine was real close to carlo gambino. some say gambino was the reason tommy eboli was killed. they hated each other or atleast eboli was caught on wiretaps calling carlo inbred and cousin fucker. chin was a eboli guy at onetime. some say chin probaly killed eboli. imo its comes down to gambino and persico being real close

In one of Micheal Franzese’s interviews; He said that Gigante summoned him to a meeting and asked him did he want to join the Genovese’s. He also told Mike Franzese that he hated Persico; and that he was no good.

There was definitely some animosity....

I wish we knew more about Persico’s time on the street from 1979-1981......

No one seems to know anything about those 2-3 years...

It goes back to Frank Costello and the Gallo brothers. They avoided each other much of the time, but by the late 1970s there was much dislike for each other. Persico was sending guy to other families outside NYC to be made, then transferred back to the Colombo family, Carmine also was backing up guys in his family that was swaying influence in other families that the Genovese family had strong ties and interests with. There is also Philadelphia and Bonanno families situations, before the Chin could vote, where Persico went against most of the other families. The reason why the Chin was supporting Persico in the 3rd Colombo war were 1) The Genovese believed John Gotti was manipulating Orena to gain more power and money for himself and the Gambinos. 2) Gigante was still gunning for John Gotti. 3) LE was cracking down on everyone to where logically it would be better to stabilize that family.
Bottomline, it was who were the Genovese family better off with in business dealings and voting on the commission.

I don't know the beef between them, but if you look at Gigante, he ran his family tremendously well, stayed out of prison for decades and his family was still very strong when he died...Persico and Gotti ruined their family's...They weren't on Gigante's level !!

Chin was extremely savvy and cagy, and set a proper tone for his family. Most others did not

Even though; Chin was more powerful then Persico as Boss;

Wouldn't Carmine Persico still be seen; or considered Gigante's senior on the commission??

Persico became boss in the early 1970's; while Gigante became boss in 1981.

Chin was 4 yrs younger then carmine. Carmine was made really young. Think scarpa says carmine is inducted in 56 57. Scarpa was made in 1950 he was only 21. I'm guessing chin was inducted around 56. Ray patrarca did a induction for 6 guys in 56 then transfers them all to the genovese family. All worcester an springfield guys. What's frank castello boss and Vito underboss in 56?

I'm pretty sure the issue stemmed from The chins long time support of the Gallo crew.

You have the birthdays mixed up. Chin was 5 years older than Carmine.

In his last podcats, Michael Franzese briefly mentions that Gigante had no love lost for Persico. He said that he met Gigante a couple of times through Fritzy Giovanelli and in one of those meetings, Gigante told Franzese that if he wasn't happy with Persico, he would bring him into the Genovese family.
