On Sunday night I went to see The Godfather which was showing for one night only at a cinema in London's West End. It was amazing. Obviously I've seen the film on dvd, tv and video numerous times, but seeing it on the big screen was a whole new experience. It just has so much more impact on a cinema screen - the colours, the noises, the small facial expressions you miss on a tv screen, and the peripheral activity at either end of the screen. When Michael is sat in the restaurant with McClusky and Solozzo, you can hear the train sounds as if its all around you. Or when Clemenza kills Carlo, Carlo's foot shoots straight out at you through the windscreen and the sound of the glass breaking is deafening. The horse's head also looks a lot more gruesome that size!!

Anyway, I got to thinking - what films have you never seen on the Big Screen but would really like to?

Being here in Texas has provided me the luxury or watching many movies on the big screen that I wouldn't be able to otherwise. I've seen The Godfather Part I, Scarface (best time viewing it), The Goonies, and The Big Lebowski. If I had to pick movies that I haven't seen already, it'll probably be in no order:

-The Usual Suspects
-Goodfellas
-Raging Bull
-JFK
-Fight Club
-Memento

Donnie Brasco, A Bronx tale......Godfather 1 and 2 (I couldn't see them because I wasn't born yet) some of the old Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm STreet ones would have been cool too.

The movie I want to see the most on the big screen is "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly." The EXTENDED Italian version.

That's great, Bella! I'd love to see that. Lucky you!

Last Sunday (19th) I saw a double bill of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1919) and Nosferatu (1921); both were fantastic, and the latter had a live DJ set in place of the original soundtrack. Just this Sunday gone I saw Fritz Lang's silent classic Metropolis, with live pianist and film musicologist Marty Marks, from Boston; he played Gottfried Huppertz' original score from the 1926 Berlin premiere: absolutely fantastic, and my best experience so far in my cinema-going history.

Films I'd love to see on the big screen:
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
Eyes Wide Shut
2001: A Space Odyssey
Taxi Driver
Once Upon a Time in America
Fargo
Blue Velvet
Eraserhead
The Deer Hunter
Breaking the Waves

I'll post more as and when I think of them...

I wish they'd bring more old films back to the cinema. Even in these days of DVD and numerous movie channels on tv, there's nothing like watching a classic on the big screen.

ABSOLUTELY! Like I said, I've seen Scarface on DVD & TV tons of times but the best time watching it was on the big screen. The print wasn't that bad & the sound was pretty good. It was just so GREAT to be able to see it at my age on the big screen. I can now die with a smile on my face.

The Godfather 1/2
Scarface
Goodfellas
Fight Club
The Beach
Forrest Gump

Those are off the top of my head so obviously there are alot more. I would have seen Fight Club if i had'nt been so naive. I heard bad reviews on the radio and I royally hated Brad Pitt. Now it's one of the greatest movies I have seen.
