The Apalachin bust was widely covered in the news media and woke up a lot of Americans. But, the article overstates its effect on the FBI. The Bureau still resisted investigating the Mob until Bobby Kennedy became Attorney General, and Joe Valachi flipped. That made it impossible for them to ignore the Mob any longer.
