I'm trying to find out the names of captains, what boroughs or neighborhoods they operated from and how many were in the original Luciano family from 1931-1946.

This is for a visual project that I'm working on and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input AntSamuel.

From the research that I've done this is my best guess.

Mike Miranda, Joe Adonis, Rocco Pellegrino, Gaetano Ricci, Ciro Terranova, Tony Strollo, Ritchie Boiardo, Willie Moretti

I believe Mike Coppola replaced Terranova in the 30's. Jimmy Angelina and Anthony Carfano became captains later on as well.

I'm pretty sure Vincent Alo was under Joey A and replaced him when Joey A went to Italy in the late 50's.

Frank iacone was a captain who over looked new england for him from like the 1930s till he died in 1954. He ran what would later he called the springfield crew but he was based in worcester. The crew was huge all over mass and ct.

Im not sure terranova was ever brought into luciano's syndicate bc he lost face during the masseria hit. He was the driver n got too nervous after the hit took place n couldnt drive. Bugsy siegel shoved him outta the way n he drove the get away car. Gaetano ricci wasnt he a chicago gangster? I mighy have him confused

By the feds Ricci is described as Genovese member but with very close ties to the Outfit since its formation

If you're interested this is where I got the info that says Coppola replaced Terranova in the 30's.

Coppola was also listed as the successor to Terranova on the Genovese Family Chart at the Valachi hearings.

Richie Boiardo was independent until around 1947 when he joined the Genovese's and Carfano was capo of the old Frankie Yale crew in the early thirties until he moved to Miami.

And I believe Thomas "Tommy Palmer" Grecco was Capo on the Lower East side. Took over Luciano's old crew.

Someone had a post similar to this. Im guessing funzi tieri must have been a capo. But this will get to murky cause lucky was sent to prison in what 1938 and frank costello took over as acting boss for like the next to decades. Joe valachi said he was inducted in 1931 or32. He says there was mass inductions so its hard to find out who was a soldier or a capo. Say if you got inducted in 1932 how long before you became a capo was there a rule back then you had to belong 5 10 yrs.

I believe Funzi was under Mike Miranda until late 50's early 60's.

Thanks for your input everyone.

SonnyD I also believe Funzi Tieri was under Mike Miranda.

Couple of things that you brought up that caught my attention.

I had never heard that Richie The Boot was independent until the 40's. That is interesting. Just curious where you got that info from.

Also I always thought that Tommy Greco was based in New Jersey. Never heard that he took over Luciano's crew on the Lower East Side. That is interesting as well.

Godfather Garden

Timeline from the Godfather Garden. Look under 1946.

In "In The Godfather Garden" it says:
"According to conversations taped by the FBI between Tony Boy, Gyp DeCarlo and Sam "The Plumber" DeCavalcante, the Boot was initiated as a caporegime, or captain, in the Luciano crime family in 1946, around the same time his colleague in crime Jerry Catena also became a "made" man."

So if I'm interpreting that correctly, the Boot became made and automatically became a captain. Interesting. Also interesting that he and Catena were both made so late.

And according to this conversation between DeCarlo and Little Pussy Russo, Funzi Tieri was indeed under Mike Miranda until Genovese made him a captain.

I read somewhere that Lupo was told to get out of the rackets, that he was allowed to run a small numbers operation possibly, and that's it. I could be mistaken, but I don't think he was ever with the mafia, only the earlier Black Hand.

The Boot and Catena were "Originals", they didn't need titles or status, they stood on their own.
