*This is a serious thread, so I thought I'd state that before anyone thinks I'm being a wiseguy.*

Ok, so yesterday a couple of my friends and I got invited to this party in August and there's going to be booze, women, women, and uh, oh yeh, women. We want to be ready for anything, so yesterday we went to A-Plus (it's like a Wawa), but one of us would've have to ask the people for them there. We didn't want to do that.

After that, we went to K-Mart. They were locked up there, so we would've had to ask. Finally, we took a trip over to Eckerd where one of us could finally just pick them up and take it to the register. The lady saw me walk in with 2 other guys, so it was rather uncomfortable. She goes, "You have a nice night." I was shocked when I saw the price on them. It was $11.99 for a 14-pack.

Does anyone else feel awkward buying them? It just feels strange to me. Should I feel weird or is it normal to have a odd feeling getting them? -Pat

I don't feel awkward at all because what does it matter what the person behind the counter thinks of you? WOW there opinion counts they work in a supermarket they've got far in life. I'm fine with buying condoms and in england they sell them in machines in toilets in pubs or public toilets so you can get them from there if you feel awkward going into a shop and buying them, or if you do feel awkward buying condoms then make sure the girl your having sex with is on the pill.

Now that surely is a most irresponsible suggestion. The pill may prevent pregnancy -- but not STD's!! (It's one thing if you're going steady or are married to the woman who doesn't want to get pregnant, but it's the last thing you should worry about when picking up strangers!)

Pat, you purchsed yourself some good insurance there for less than a buck a f*ck. And don't feel embarrassed by it, it's no big deal. I suggest you sacrifice one or two and practice putting them on and taking them off

I worked at a WaWa many years ago (before I got "far in life" like Scarface.1 apparently is) and did end up cracking up (so did the customer) when I lifted the box of condoms to see what was under it: Vivarin caffeine pills

Well that was kind of an asshole thing to say. I mean sure, it doesn't matter what other people think, but not because of their job. It's because its your life, not someone elses. Maybe that's the only job they can get. Maybe they couldn't afford to go to college and get a degree. Maybe they are in college and are having trouble paying for it. My friends older brother Didn't even finish "high school" and he was on £20,000 a year so i'm just saying if these people finished high school and couldn't get a good job, then really i think they probably failed at school seen as my friends brother didn't even finish high school and has a well paying job as an electriction, I'm not going to say anymore because i may be accused of taking this thread of course.

During my conversation with my POP, A point came up.

Do you really think a person may be ready to use a condom if they can't even bring themsleves to ask someone for one?

If you're too embarrassed to ask for a condom I suspect you'll be too embarrassed to have sex.

I saw a comic do a skit on this. His theory was why be embarrassed to get condoms. That means people know you're probably gonna have sex. You should be bursting through the front door announcing it to everyone.

But what we hope is that the FEAR doesn't keep people from doing things RIGHT. We hope they don't have to pay for the rest of their life's from making a bad mistake because of that fear.

After I got freshied for the second time last summer I was invited to my seniors party, and he had a big night planned with his gf so he made me and my friend go into a local store pretending to be a couple and we picked him out some tropical smelling condoms. It was pretty embarrassing but it's fun now that I look back. If you are embarrassed you should go to a pharmacy.

Also, if you're too embarrassed to face the clerk at a store, or you don't have the money, free clinics, such as Planned Parenthood will give you some for free. If you or the girl have a regular doctor you can go to your doctor and get free condoms too. They'll be more then happy to give them to you. They'll probably applaud you for it.

Hey, lets not give the impression that condoms are the failsafe answer to go out and have sexual intercourse. Remember if something does go wrong and the girls gets pregnant it is a another whole ballgame. So if you want to play, make sure you know the game.
Really, if you are a first time user. Read the instruction! Make sure they fix right and for crying out loud, don't forget to hold on to the dam thing when you pull out. You don't want to look down and say, where the hell is the dam thing when it slipped off as you exited! Fishing is one thing, you don't want to do after sex!

I'm nopt really embarrassed to get them, but it'd feel weird asking a guy to get them for me and then him asking me, "Do you want lubricant or none?" :p As far as sizes go, the ones I got don't have a size on it.

I would hope that most clerks would have some class and not comment of what a person is purchasing.

After all they are the ones that are selling 50 types of condoms and many items of personal needs.

Lets face it, they see this stuff going over the counter all the time. Why would they care.

It's not necessarily embarassing to buy them, but it is a tad awkward.

Although not as awkward and embarassing as having to explain to your parents why in about 9 months they will be grandparents because you were to embarassed to buy them :p

So just go in, pick out a box (hell, they sell them here at local supermarkets individuals under the "travel items" sections of the stores) and go up to the register and pay and walk out. Not a big deal.

Don't worry about it Pat, I was well embarressed at your age to buy them so I used to just get my missus to get them.

Just be glad you didn't pick up the large size and then have the clerk tell you you got the wrong ones.

What you guys need to do, Pat, is measure each other.

The more expensive brands usually come in sizes. It's also usually a good idea to buy one size too small. You want to go for a tight fit.

It is awkward buying Items like that. I remember as a teenager I was embarresed buying minipads. Just be proud of yourself you are doing the right thing by preventing an unwanted pregnancy or a STD.

If buying rubbers makes you feel foolish, try buying a couple packs of diapers and some baby formula.

I, for one, have never been embarrassed asking for condoms- i mean really it's a whole lot less painful to think about than getting a disease etc. Who cares what the people behind the counter think-they aren't the ones in your head when you go to bed at night
