I'm from a small dairy town about 3 hours north of Chicago. I'm not talking Capone days but 1960's -present. Nobody ever talked about this in the open, only behind closed doors and even then...

It was said certain (not all) milk company and cheese factory/creamery owners were involved with the mafia. These were old timers who had been in business since at least the 60's. Certain local names had/have a stigma attached to them. I've read about the outfit being involved in the milk business starting in the 1930's, but I'm wondering specifically how it works way out in the boondocks? Is it laundering? Anyone know how exactly it works?
