Better than most of anyone else left in the Demeo upper echelon after Tony or Silvio? Or way to unpredictable and nutty? Or would have been givien the power of Capo or boss calmed him down and made him mature.

I've walked along the red canal of mars
I've known kings and king makers
Poets painters and paupers
I've danced danced on the rings of Saturn
Still your pilgrim soul is the only thing that ever mattered

He wouldn't flip, and he's intelligent but he's controlled by his insecurity and that would cause him to fall apart. He's really the one who could have benefited from therapy had his fragile ego have even considered going.

*Would have been killed over hiding money from New York
*Would have been killed when his sexual stuff was found out, it was public knowledge he was a deviant. If Janice Soprano tells the dildo story, he's a marked man, simple as that.

*Would have at the least had to answer over beating a stripper to death in public to the other NY families

*Would have crumbled when his son had the accident, which was also when he was beaten to death by Tony. Feel like that is the last point for Ralph no matter what.

I think he would have been a bad Boss for a number of reasons, first and foremost, his psycho personality.
Then you have his lack of respect for anyone else. Remember when Vito's brother was in the coma and Ralphie said "he wasn't that smart to begin with? As far as beating the stripper to death,I don't think that would cause him a problem. one,she was not related to or married to any made guys. Two, her murder would have been just like the waiter that Chris and Paulie killed. bad decision, yea, but no made guy (Soprano member or any other Family member) would have any business questioning it.

IMHO,he was just too egocentric to head the Sopranos. I could almost see him playing "got your nose" with Carmine Luppertazzi,or giving him "noogies" at a major sitdown, and thinking he was the life of the party.

Ralph as boss ? But if he tried to switch to Lupertazzi. Maybe NY would made him boss but would be the Lupertazzi's puppet. For the sociopath or sexual depravat isn't a question: he was a criminal and the criminal are sadic, egocentric ecc. The dildo ? Ralphie don't fucked with a man and who would believe to Janice the tony's degenate sister ? the stripper murder ? Even Silvio said that wasn't a problem.
So we're talking about.

In season 5 Silvio couldn't even remember why Ralph killed Tracey, so it's definitely not a problem. I think Ralph would of been a good boss because he did have business and street smarts. Most importantly, he was a great earner. However, he was a loose cannon and it would of led to his downfall eventually. Also nobody really liked Ralph so it's questionable how much loyalty he'd command.

All Day nails it about Ralphie hiding money from New York. The jokes about an underboss's wife. Ralphie was more cut out to be a serial bank robber or con man than a wiseguy. He was Jersey's Joe Gallo.

Ralphie may have been admired as a good earner, but he wasn't liked. He commanded the respect of his small crew, but how many guys actually liked the guy? It wasn't just Tony that thought of him as a loose cannon. He had a rep. He would never have commanded the loyalty and respect necessary to lead the Family. He also seemed to me to be less street smart and more book smart. He would've been like a hot headed version of Paul Castellano.

I agree with you. [/quote]

Also, he wasn't a very formidable guy. I mean, not every Boss needs to be a big hulky guy. But Ralph while a sadistic crazy fuck didn't have that commanding presence, that scariness that could put subordinates in their place (even if Paulie didn't hate him). He was an effete, well dressed guy who I'm surprised got as high up as he did. He came off a little too booksmart to be a Mafioso.

Ralphie was reluctant to become anything higher than a soldier. Well dressed sociopath with very deviant tendencies. He nearly gave Paulie’s mother a stroke!

I don't think any of the guys that were around would have worked out as boss. Closest one would be Silvio and even he knew he was better off as an advisor. Ralph, Richie, Paulie etc were too impulsive, reckless and unhinged in their own ways to be #1. Some people are just better off working for someone instead of being in charge. Someone like Tony is the opposite.

Ralphie liked to get his you know what rubbed raw with a cheese grater. I wonder if Janice just said that to Tony to mess with him.
