I personally lean more towards sanctioned hit by Uncle Joe because remember Uncle Joe is big into sports bookmaking, he came up as a bookie in the 80s under Scarfo. So for a bookie right in his own backyard to blatantly not pay tribute I feel like he had to set an example: just my two cents.

And I know someone is going to say well look at the Mastronardo's- the Mastronardo's are in a different league, have tight security, and would cause endless heat if they hit the Mastronardo's. I feel like Rocco they felt they could and should hit to set an example- he was quasi one of them (gave Lutz a job after prison) and lived in the heart of South Philly Mob territory (The Mastronardo's live a world away from South Philly in the extremely affluent suburbs)

I'd like to know whom those "three drug dealers" were. I'm assuming they may have been guys linked to the 10th & O bunch. Thats just an assumption on my part, I have no inside knowledge or anything. But he was closer to their backyard than Ligambi's. Unless Ligambis turf and influence extended to the Wolf Street area, I have no idea. But odds are it was a mob hit, they definitely had their reasons for wanting him dead and probably put the hit in motion, but not wanting to risk their own guys, maybe they got the dealers to do it. Interesting case, none the less.

Yes, very interesting case- that the cops seem to not have even the slightest clue of who did it.

If I had to guess, I would say Borgesi put the hit in motion from the can with Uncle Joe's OK. Monacello didn't know about the hit because he only ran Georgie Boys sports booking and loan sharking operation, hence why he didn't rat about it (I'm almost 100% sure Bent Finger Lou was telling the truth at both trials) . Maybe three guys know: Borgesi, Uncle Joe, and the hitter (gonna take a long shot guess either Nicodemo, Canalichio, or Grande seem to be carrying out all the recent Philly mob hits from 2003-current).

Agree that the drug dealers were probably South Philly guys, and probably 10th & O. Also remember that Dom Grande came up with those guys--his family has been in the life for generations, but in his early 20s he ran with 10th & O more than with Nicodemo.

good point but I thought i heard the mastronardo's even living out the main line were protected by the genovese family, could be wrong but thought I read that somewhere....another craxy unsolved s philly hit...makes it even more nuts that nicodemo got caught doing what he did

Borgesi was getting into with Rocco. I do believe he set the whole thing in motion. Dom Grande is who I believe was the actual shooter or part of the team, as he had more easy access then Canalichio, while Nicodemo has an airtight alibi.

After reading the back story, I wonder, why didn't he agree to pay protection money BUT, tell Philly and Ligambi that he needs their help and protection to get certain people to pay up first. ($60,000)

Going after his $60,000 AND telling Philly to F off, only insured that he had to worry about 2 adversaries when he could have made it 1, for a price of course.

When this first happened people swore up and down it wasn't a mafia hit. Obviously I don't know for sure, but my guess is it was a sanctioned hit. Uncle Joe wasn't shy about using violence when need be.
