Francesco Aracri , "the godfather of Muenster", an important leader of the 'Ndrangheta arrested in the North Rhine-Westphalian city last June in execution of a European arrest warrant issued by Italy, was released by order of the Hamm prosecutor's office . This is what the newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" reports, adding that, according to Hamm's prosecutor's office, "the Italian authorities have not provided sufficient details on the accusations" against the 'Ndrangheta. In particular, the questions raised by the German judiciary remained "unanswered". Therefore, the detainee was released from custody pending extradition. Aracri, known as Franco, was arrested as part of the operation against Calabrian organized crime organized by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of Catanzaro. Taking place in several countries, the action resulted in 41 arrests out of 123 suspects.

'Ndrangheta has the largest presence outside its country of origin. In particular, for German investigators, "the godfather of Muenster" was among the most important exponents of Calabrian organized crime in Germany. With nine other 'Ndrangheta members, Aracri would have formed the "German Crime", a body competent to mediate between the interests of the Calabrian clans in German territory. According to investigators, the 'Ndrangheta does not have such an organization outside Italy in any other European country. According to several witnesses, Aracri would be close to Nicolino Grande Aracri , sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 2019 who had close ties with Germany. In this country since the 1970s, "the godfather of Muenster" would have been one of the most important representatives of the 'Ndrangheta, for which he would have carried out money laundering activities since the 1990s.

"The Palagiustizia bar and the Turin prison canteen were the business of the 'Ndrangheta", the number of suspects rises to 17
Among the prominent figures there is also the former president of the Liberamensa cooperative, the investigations closed

In all there are 17 suspects in the maxi-investigation of the anti-mafia district directorate of Turin which discovered the interests of the 'ndrangheta in the management of the bar of the Palace of Justice, assigned by the Municipality of Turin to the LiberaMensa cooperative, which gave work to prisoners and ex-prisoners , until the July 2023 roundup . The same cooperative also managed the Vallette prison bar until its capitulation in the post-covid period.

At the beginning of December 2023, the public prosecutors Paolo Toso and Francesco Pelosi served the notice of conclusion of the investigations, among others, to Rocco Pronestì, Crescenzo D'Alterio (considered Pronestì's man), Rocco Cambrea and Silvana Perrone. The first is a historian belonging to organized crime in Piedmont and for years linked to the major exponents of the local 'Ndrangheta. Having always escaped conviction for mafia association, he has a history of crimes relating to weapons and drug trafficking. In competition with Cambrea (considered "close to the 'Ndrangheta") he is accused of usury and extortion, but also of having organized a clandestine gambling den in the bar in Via Postumia where he dealt with gambling in the mid-90s, before to be convicted in the proceedings called Carthage.

Drug trafficking in Lombardy, Dolci: «It is the hegemony of the 'Ndrangheta»
The deputy prosecutor of Milan: «In an investigation a man from the Calabrian gangs claimed: “Lombardy is our thing”»

MILAN Lombardy is «undoubtedly the main crossroads in our country for drug trafficking. We have investigations into trafficking in the order of hundreds and thousands of kilos of cocaine, hashish and marijuana, a synthetic drug that comes from Holland and with the resulting profits, which are then reinvested in legal activities." This was stated by Alessandra Dolci , deputy prosecutor of the Court of Milan, speaking at the meeting "The mafias in Lombardy", organized by the Lombard Democratic Party, underway at Palazzo Pirelli.
The main organization guaranteeing drug trafficking «is precisely the 'ndrangheta , which is the hegemonic mafia, not only in our territory, but also at a national and international level . So much so that in recent investigations a member of the 'Ndrangheta who had claimed for himself the right to manage this enormous level of cocaine trafficking for Lombardy and said that "Lombardy is our thing". So you can imagine the flow of money that involves our territory and which is partly "reinvested in economic activities", underlined Dolci.

Even in the "Hydra" investigation which hypothesized a mafia consortium in Lombardy, «which at the moment has not had the desired outcome for us», the majority of the contested crimes «are represented by crimes of a fiscal nature».
From the Idra investigation this convergence of interests «between subjects in the odor of the 'Ndrangheta, between subjects in the odor of Cosa Nostra and subjects in the odor of Camorra was represented by the creation and marketing of fictitious tax credits which are essentially cash».
«What we considered at the time to be “spy crimes” – added Dolci – i.e. the bulldozer burned on the construction site, or the fight delivered to the public administrator have practically disappeared. There are very few acts of intimidation and violent connotations." «What reveals the presence of the mafias – concluded the deputy prosecutor – are the investigations into fictitious invoices, bankruptcy or reports of suspicious transactions that come from the District Anti-Mafia Directorate or the Dia. Therefore spy crimes are economic crimes."

The 'Ndrangheta is at home in Germany. The ''Erfurt Group'' has been active for over 25 years
December 14, 2023
The connections with the "Eureka" operation carried out by the DDA of Reggio Calabria

The "Erfurt Group", a cell of the 'Ndrangheta active in the capital of Thuringia, as well as in Saxony "for more than 25 years", is said to be responsible for numerous cases of money laundering. This is what the radio and television broadcaster "Mdr" reports, adding that for years the German authorities have been monitoring a building "in the north of Erfurt".
It is suspected, in fact, that it is a "one of the most important strategic properties" of the exponents of Calabrian organized crime in the city. The building - as Agenzia Nova reported - was purchased "in the mid-nineties". by Italian entrepreneurs and restaurateurs, presumably belonging to the "Erfurt Group", to set up apartments. The tenants were "mostly Italian" who worked in one of the many Italian restaurants in the city and came "mostly from Calabria", in particular from San Luca, one of the strongholds of the 'Ndrangheta in the region. The German authorities have ascertained that "234 Italian citizens" have registered at the property's address over the years. Some lived in the building "for years", others "for a few months", working in restaurants believed to belong to Calabrian organized crime in Leipzig, Dresden and Munich. In part, these tenants were reported to San Luca. Now, an investigation conducted by "Mdr" with the newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" reveals that, in 2019, the Gbr company sold the building in the north of Erfurt and a warehouse to a Bavarian real estate group for 2.84 million euros. The Gbr belongs to three Italian entrepreneurs, two of whom are suspected of being affiliated with the 'Ndrangheta, while the other would have been the accountant of the "Erfurt Group".

The links with one of those arrested in the "Eureka" operation
This Gbr associate is related to one of those arrested during the "Eureka" operation, carried out last May against crime organized in Calabria in various European countries with the coordination of the Reggio Calabria prosecutor's office. In particular, it would be Domenico Giorgi who, arrested in Portugal on charges of money laundering, had resided in Erfurt for years. With other exponents of Calabrian organized crime in the city, Giorgi appears in the "Fido" investigation, conducted by the Gera prosecutor's office on the investments of the 'Ndrangheta in Germany until it was interrupted in 2006. To shed light on this stop, the Thuringian parliament established a commission of inquiry in order to clarify whether at the origin of the decision there were links between politics, the judiciary and the police forces of the Land with the 'Ndrangheta.
The 'Eureka' operation, carried out on 3 May 2023 at the request of the DDA, tells not only of the links between "our" 'Ndrangheta and the drug traffickers of Central and South America with agreements that have led Calabrian organized crime to take on a primary role in the field of trafficking towards Europe, but also in the huge financial flows that are produced and moved by the 'Ndrangheta in the world.

''Diario di Bordo'', Libera's report on criminal affairs in Italian ports
Free December 19, 2023
Libera presents “Diario di Bordo. Stories, data and mechanisms of criminal projections in Italian ports"

In 2022, 140 cases of crime were recorded in 29 Italian ports.

The ports are "Cosa Nostra": between 2006 and 2022, at least 54 Italian ports were subject to the interests of organized crime with the participation of 66 clans.

Maritime ports represent an opportunity for criminal groups to increase their profits and strengthen collusion. Ports, in fact, can be considered as a point of arrival, transit, exchange and intersection, in which people and goods move and are handled, generating wealth: on the one hand the businesses created by traffic, on the other the investments necessary to maintain operational infrastructure, both possible fields for the expansion of criminal interests.

Libera presented the “Logbook” report this morning in Rome. Stories, data and mechanisms of criminal projections in Italian ports" (edited by Francesca Rispoli, Marco Antonelli and Peppe Ruggiero) in which the data coming from the Assoporti press review, the reports of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission, the DIA, of the DNAA, the Customs Agency and the Financial Police.

Business is going well
During 2022, 140 cases of crime were recorded within Italian ports, approximately one episode every three days, which occurred in 29 ports, of which 23 were of national importance. 40% of the total. The highest number of crime cases were identified in the Port of Ancona (15 cases), followed by the Port of Genoa with 14 cases and Naples and Palermo with 11. Of the 140 cases, 85.7% concern illegal activities of importing goods or products, 7.9% concern illegal export activities of goods or products, 2.9% concern seizures of goods in transit, while the remainder relates to other unclassifiable illicit phenomena.

Analyzing the activities carried out by criminal actors, we can note that only a small part concern projection into the legal economy of the port, while in 136 cases they are illicit activities. In this last case, the data that stands out most concerns the trafficking of counterfeit goods, equal to 49.3% of the mapped cases, followed by drug trafficking with 23.2% and smuggling with 11.6%. To a marginal extent, this is followed by episodes relating to currency crimes (5.8%), illicit waste trafficking (2.9%).

Ports are Cosa Nostra
By analyzing the reports of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate and the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate, published between 2006 and 2022, more than one Italian port in seven was the subject of the interests of organized crime. There are at least 54 Italian ports that have been the subject of criminal projections, with the participation of at least 66 clans, which have operated in illegal and legal business activities. Among them, the traditional Italian mafias stand out: 'Ndrangheta, Camorra and Cosa Nostra.

However, other criminal organizations of Italian origin also appear: the Magliana gang, Sacra Corona Unita and criminal groups from Bari. Furthermore, there are projections of various groups whose geographical origin is indicated exclusively (either because where they carry out their main activities, or because of the territorial origin of the members) such as Asians, Eastern Europeans, North Africans, or specifying the country of origin, Albania, China, Mexico and Nigeria.

Out of 66 clans, 41 are 'ndrangheta groups that operate in various illicit markets: waste trafficking, arms trafficking, cigarette and TLE smuggling, trafficking in counterfeit products, extortion and usury, and above all drug trafficking.

Although the mafias play an important role, they are not the only actors involved, given that the contribution of multiple subjects is often necessary, in many cases belonging to the area of ??the legal economy: port workers, public employees, entrepreneurs and industry professionals. maritime economy while for illegal trafficking, the contribution of those who produce, those who embark, those who deal with the transfer, those who recover the cargo, those who take it out of the port area and those who deal with distribution is often necessary.

“The analytical perspective used tries to highlight the dynamics of interaction between illegal phenomena and actors of the legal economy, to highlight not only the action of criminal groups, but above all the contextual conditions that allow the groups to operate . In Italy, some institutions have dealt with it, but, despite the centrality of the port system for the country's economy and the relevance of Italian organized crime on the international stage, a broader analysis of the phenomenon is lacking. In the public debate, in fact, reflections on the topic usually emerge in conjunction with major arrests conducted by the police or on the occasion of large-scale seizures of narcotics or other illegal materials. In conclusion, the airports appear to be a strategic hub of fundamental importance for criminal groups, who can exploit the infrastructure and connections for various purposes. A topic on which, however, the political debate still seems too timid.

In this sense, the strengthening of coordination between judicial authorities, law enforcement agencies, public authorities present in the port and private companies operating there seems to be one of the main needs on which to intervene, not only from a repressive perspective, but, above all, preventively. Greater awareness on the part of the actors who operate in the port sector - public and private - of the criminal and corruption risks that characterize the life of the ports, seems to be the precondition for the promotion of contexts less predisposed to illicit exchanges, as well as for the preparation of policies of development consistent with these purposes".

Gioia Tauro
The Calabrian port today is one of the strategic ports for the importation of cocaine into Europe. The numbers of seizures are huge and give an idea of ??the enormous profits made by the ndrangheta which, thanks to these businesses, is buying up half of Europe: in April 2023 the Financial Police and the Customs communicated that in the previous two years they had been seized in Gioia Tauro alone, 38 tons of cocaine, approximately 93.7% of that seized throughout Italy.

This means that if 38 tonnes were seized in two years, over 150 tonnes passed through, destined for all of Europe and not just our country. Just stop for a moment to calculate the value on the drug dealing markets of over 150 tons of coca which, once cut, are worth 600 tons to imagine the huge profits that underlie the business. Billions and billions of euros, many more than a state finance company, which drug the legal market with illegal economic flows, conditioning the systems of economic and social relations in our country and beyond.

Not just Italy
In the 2023 report, the DCSA dedicated an in-depth analysis of international cocaine trafficking by sea. According to what has been reconstructed, " in 2020, in particular, 520 cocaine seizures were made, reported by 12 EU Member States (Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal , Spain) and from 3 countries outside the EU (Russia, Ukraine, United Kingdom)” .

The report goes on to claim that: “The quantity of cocaine seized amounts to 282 tonnes, found in 75 different ports, distributed as follows: 301 seizures (171 tonnes) in 35 EU ports; 11 seizures (2 tonnes) in 6 ports in non-EU countries; 206 seizures (108 tonnes) in 32 Latin American ports; 1 seizure (0.5 tons) in an African port; 1 seizure (0.5 tons) in a North American port. In essence, in 2020, 108 tons of cocaine, bound for Europe, were seized in departure ports located in Latin America and approximately 171 tons (approximately 80% of the cocaine intercepted in Europe, equal to 213 tons) were seized in the main container ports of the European Union”.

“The Chinese mafia and the 'ndrangheta collaborate” / Bologna investigation: “Proceeds from drug dealing cleaned up in China”
Publication: 24.12.2023- Lorenzo Drigo
The Chinese mafia and the 'ndrangheta, according to a recent investigation by the Fiamme Gialle of Bologna, collaborate to clean up the proceeds of drug dealing in Italy
The connections and deals between the Chinese mafia and the 'Ndrangheta
A recent investigation by the Fiamme Gialle of Bologna managed to establish for the first time a direct link between the Chinese and the Italian mafia, in particular the 'Ndrangheta . A long and complex operation by the Guardia di Finanza with investigations launched even before Covid and which were intertwined with other operations conducted on Italian soil, for a total of tens of thousands of euros in turnover.

The investigation by the Fiamme Gialle of Bologna into the links between the Chinese mafia and the 'Ndrangheta , but also the Camorra, has been named " Aspromonte Emiliano " and sees Chinese organized crime playing the role of "banker" for Italian criminals . Roles were reversed, however, in the exchanges at the center of the investigations called " Sciallo-CashBack ", which revealed money transfers between Italy and China by textile companies regarding non-existent services. Finally, there is a third operation by the Fiamme Gialle on the illicit interactions between the Chinese mafia and the 'Ndrangheta, called "Madreperla" and which analyzed the role of the historic shirt manufacturer Marol1959, acquired by two Chinese spouses and then transferred to the China-based company Newco , which ultimately “recycled” the brand on other platforms.

The Aspromonte Emiliano operation of the Fiamme Gialle of Bologna
Of the three investigations that have established the links between the Chinese mafia and the 'Ndrangheta, the most recent and detailed is " Aspromonte Emiliano " which has not yet managed to ascertain the total extent of the turnover. The mechanism behind the exchanges sells the role of " banker " in Chinese crime, acquiring the "dirty" banknotes of illicit Italian business transactions (drug dealing above all others), and then cleaning them in China and transferring them back to whoever commissioned the exchange.

Thus, the Chinese mafia cleans up the dirty money of the 'Ndrangheta, transferring it back to secure current accounts and accounting for it with operations that are, in reality, impossible to verify given that they take place on Chinese territory. Central to the Bologna investigation is the role of the 49-year-old Chinese Jiang Chunjian , resident in Casalecchio di Reno and called, in some chats discovered by the investigators, "the banker". The cost for the 'Ndrangheta of a cash cleaning operation by the Chinese mafia can reach up to 12% of the total cleaned , with an average of 6/8%.

Cassano allo Ionio, investigations into the Christmas ambush continue: NAME AND DETAILS
Cassano allo Ionio: the man is already known to the police, the episode happened in the "Bruscata Grande" district
by Ilaria Calabrò
26 Dec 2023 | 11:38
carabinieri
Unidentified people fired two gunshots at a fifty-one-year-old, Franco Bloise , already known to the police, who was unharmed. The episode happened in the “Bruscata Grande” district of Cassano allo Ionio . Bloise, at the time the two gunshots were fired, was driving his car, in which he was traveling alone, and was returning home.

The shots damaged the car without embedding themselves in the passenger compartment. The Carabinieri of the Cassano Company are investigating the incident. The hypothesis that is made at an investigative level is that of a "warning" against Bloise for issues related to local crime circles.

The 'Ndrangheta and religious festivals
Part of the Calabrian church is trying to free Christian celebrations from mafia interest. Starting from the sanctuary of Polsi, the first place of summit and now presided over, to the choice of the bishop of Vibo Valentia, to verify the relationships of the brotherhoods with the 'ndrangheta and freemasonry

December 27, 2023

“The choice to appropriate Christian rites and symbols may be linked to the tendency of families to give a spiritual foundation to what they do. If the 'Ndrangheta presents itself as 'another state', then it must have another religion." Thus Don Tonino Saraco, who last July received us in his office in the parish of Ardore , in the heart of Locride . In 2017 Monsignor Francesco Oliva , bishop of the diocese of Locri-Gerace , wanted him as the new rector of the sanctuary of Polsi , one of the most mystical places in Calabria , and perhaps also for this reason, at least until about a decade ago, the nerve center of the perverse relationship between the 'Ndrangheta lust for power, symbolism and sacred occasions.

The history of the sanctuary of the Madonna della Montagna, in Polsi, is associated with the 'Ndrangheta dynamics, according to some scholars, since the last decade of the nineteenth century.

Georges Almendras: “The drug trafficking that operates in Uruguay is the effect of the presence of the criminal mafia organization Ndrangheta”

Mafia: from Italy to Latin America

According to the journalist, there are conflicts of interest because, since 2010, mafia ideology has been added to economic power. He indicated that in Italy there is a mafia State, even though it is not seen that way internationally, "that is why the young people in Palermo shout 'The mafia out of the State!' and we will have to sing that in a few years in our country if we do not put our pants on properly.”

Almendras explained that drug trafficking and arms trafficking are among the most profitable businesses within criminality, even more than white slave trafficking and large scams, since they give money in tons, in astronomical figures.

“The drug trafficking that operates in Uruguay is the effect of the presence on the continent of a criminal mafia organization called Ndrangheta, which is based in Calabria. "The judges, prosecutors and attorneys of Italy have Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay under scrutiny because the organization is massively controlling drug trafficking," said the interviewee.

Camorra not so much, but Cosa Nostra and 'Ndranghet are under heavily influence and still have strong connections to masonic lodges.

yes not today, but in 1800s the Camorra had pseudo-masonic rituals and it was influenced by freemasons

For five and a half years the "adjustments" have continued undaunted in the bowels of the 'Ndrangheta which presides over every type of illegal business in the Sibaritide, governing with an iron fist all unauthorized trafficking, harassment, abuses and overbearing impositions which the more or less healthy part of society is forced to suffer with terror which almost always forces silence and resignation.

In the opulent plain people continue to shoot and kill. In the last five years and a half, there have already been 13 bodies collected by the law and cataloged as unequivocal 'Ndrangheta murders.

The innocent are not spared
Ambushes with gunfire which, in some cases, saw even people who had absolutely nothing to do with the shady affairs of the 'Ndrangheta fall to the ground, without any mercy on the part of their assassins, men and women whose the only "faults" were those of being in the car to go to work with the "wrong" person or other fatal coincidences for them.

To close the calendar year 2023 - which saw 5 'ndrangheta corpses on the ground - a few evenings ago the dispensers of death returned to the charge, armed with pistols on the eve of Christmas, against the 51-year-old Franco Bloise (photo) , known as The Hawaiian for his passion for shirts depicting tropical flowers, plants and trees, a well-known face in local investigative circles. Bloise remained practically unharmed, luckily for him.

THE DECISION
'Ndrangheta, Tommaso Anello remains at 41 bis
The Supreme Court rejected the 60-year-old's appeal against the order of the Supervisory Court of Rome
Published on: 04/01/2024 – 17:55
ROME The Court of Cassation has declared inadmissible the appeal presented by Tommaso Anello, 60 years old, brother of Rocco Anello, both considered to be at the top of the Anello-Fruci gang of Filadelfia. Anello, in particular, had appealed against the order of the Supervisory Court of last March. In his appeal, Tommaso Anello had denounced "flaws in the reasoning against the measure" but the appeal is "permitted before the Supreme Court only in case of violation of the law".

'Ndrangheta in the Sibaritide, the rise of Luigi Abbruzzese. For the repentant he was already "boss at fifteen"

It is alleged Luigi Abbruzzese the new head of the nomad clan of Cassano all'Ionio is someone who would have jumped ahead, so much so that he entered the criminal scene at just fifteen years of age. Perhaps this is also why he carries with him that nickname which is a whole program: "The little one".

Giulio Bellocco, considered a leading member of the Rosarno gang of the same name, died in the "Opera" prison in Milan . For many years, however, the 72-year-old had moved together with his partner Aurora Spanò to San Ferdinando, a small town in the port area of ??Gioia Tauro which is only a handful of kilometers from Rosarno.
Bellocco would have turned 73 on June 13th. According to what we learned, the elderly man had been suffering from a neurodegenerative disease for some time and in recent weeks his health conditions had worsened until his death on January 7th.
Giulio Bellocco was serving a sentence of 13 years and six months in prison after the sentence imposed on him by the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria in the trial called "Tramonto", in which he was accused of mafia association aimed at carrying out a series of extortions.

'Ndrangheta, DDA demands trial for 80 nomadic gang suspects
Catanzaro, investigating judge has set preliminary hearing for February 8th
CATANZARO , 08 January 2024, 18:10

ANSA editorial team
\
The DDA of Catanzaro has requested the indictment of 80 suspects in the investigation into the gypsy gang of the Calabrian capital.

The investigating judge Chiara Esposito has set the preliminary hearing for next February 8th.
In particular, Luigi Vecceloque Pereloque, Massimo Bevilacqua, Luciano Bevilacqua, Vincenzo Berlingeri, Domenico Passalacqua (born in 1973), Ernesto Bevacqua and Massimo Berlingeri are accused of mafia-style criminal association, believed to be exponents of the Passalacqua/Bevilacqua clan "subject to control and to the lordship of the 'Ndrangheta club in Isola Capo Rizzuto".
The defendants are accused, in various capacities, of a long series of extortion, failure to comply with the sentence, weapons crimes, receiving stolen goods, robbery, theft and corruption.

The investigation also includes drug trafficking which would have been directly linked to the Mannolo family of San Leonardo di Cutro where the logistical base for the supply and concealment of cocaine was located. The bridge was born thanks to kinship ties created between the Mannolo family and the Passalacqua family from Catanzaro.
Also involved in the investigation is an assistant of the penitentiary police serving in Catanzaro, Domenico Sacco, accused of having facilitated, through "active and/or passive conduct", the dealing of cocaine. In particular, Sacco, in direct and continuous contact with the inmates of the Siano prison, "provided a decisive contribution to the functioning of the organization by guaranteeing assistance and conveying messages to the inmates" and also warning them about the possibility of them being intercepted. Among the crimes contested there is also corruption since Sacco would have been promised and given money and other gifts to bring unauthorized goods into prison or to convey messages.

Review
In an increasingly interconnected world, where distances are canceled out by a click and virtual meeting places are replacing real ones, even mafias are learning to adapt: ??exploiting the potential of technology, they enter the digital space as if it were a new territory of conquest.

Once again, organized crime proves to be extremely flexible and capable of keeping up with the times. It no longer uses rude and cheeky little boys, but skilled professionals with skills in the IT and financial sector. Its weapons today are highly sophisticated hardware and software, which allow it to insinuate itself into the darkest corners of the web, protected not by the ancient silence, but by the anonymity that digital space allows us to maintain. The "discovery" of cryptocurrencies, then, has opened up lucrative and unexpected prospects, if we consider that in 2022 the volume of illicit transactions reached a record of 20.6 billion euros.

Nicola Gratteri and Antonio Nicaso illustrate this metamorphosis by citing figures and documents, demonstrating the fact that the mafia, and in particular the 'Ndrangheta, now acts on a global scale, dealing drugs, laundering money, carrying out financial scams and selling weapons in every part of the planet, without even having to leave home.

In this peculiar process of hybridization, the 'Ndrangheta, like the mythological griffin, simultaneously embodies traditional "values" and new demands, making the boundaries between legality and illegality increasingly fluid. Law enforcement agencies, consequently, find themselves faced with unprecedented challenges, which must be faced with the awareness that, in a transnational dimension, it is necessary to overcome political, cultural and legal differences in the name of a common objective: to protect society and future generations from the pitfalls of "a silent mafia", very skilled in the art of mimicry and metamorphosis.

The 251 luxury cars stolen, from Canada to Gioia Tauro. The trafficking of the 'Ndrangheta
by Carlo Macrì
They are Mercedes, Porsche, Chrysler, Audi worth 150-200 thousand euros. An investigation that lasted two years and 18 suspicious ships

The 'ndrangheta as a connecting element between Canadian organized crime and commercial trafficking in Africa and the Middle East. With a focal point: the port of Gioia Tauro. The business is that of large-engined cars, stolen in Canada and then placed in Turkey, Arab countries and North Africa.

An information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police , which reached the hands of the Gioia Tauro police, triggered, two years ago, the investigations which on Thursday (January 18) led to the seizure in the Calabrian port of 251 large cars (and 7,650 dollars kept inside one of the cars). These are top class cars, such as Mercedes, Porsche, Chrysler, Audi, whose individual value is around 150-200 thousand euros.

500 containers searched
The investigation coordinated by the Palmi prosecutor's office also involved the Financial Police and the Customs Agency, which had to search around 500 containers and sift through the documentation that the Canadian organizers had cleverly disguised. The car traffic was distributed across 18 cargo ships, departing from the ports of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, destined for Africa. It is here that the large-engined cars were then placed and sold without any particular problems given that, in those countries, there is no legislation to regularize the entry of foreign cars, even without appropriate documentation.

Why Canada
Just as there is no legislation in Canada that can lead to the owner of a car if it were stolen. If a Canadian citizen's car is stolen - explain the Financial Police investigators - he will hardly be able to recover it. This legislative gap has allowed the Canadian organization to steal hundreds of high-powered cars over the years, disguise the chassis data and then resell them at extraordinary prices in African countries. Almost new vehicles that have a thriving market in the East, given the demand.

The Calabrian side of the 'ndrangheta
The new business that the Canadian mafia manages will probably also have a Calabrian side and, above all, the 'Ndrangheta of Gioia Tauro. Canada is a territory where the Calabrian gangs, especially those of Jonica Reggio, have been the economic force of that state for decades. The organizers therefore thought that making an intermediate stop in Gioia Tauro, the most important port in the Mediterranean, with 3,500,000 containers of traffic (record in 2023), would have fewer problems in passing the counterfeit goods (in this case the luxury), precisely due to the enormity of handling in the Calabrian port. International cocaine traffickers who use the Calabrian port for storing drugs also make a similar reasoning. Which, from South America, arrives in Gioia Tauro and is then transferred to Spain, Northern Europe, to flood the drug markets. A mechanism that has been tested for years and often gets blocked due to the tight customs controls that use sophisticated equipment whose eye is able to scan the inside of the container, until it locates the cocaine, even if it is hidden among the fruit or preserves.

Oh boy, here we go, talks of maxi-trials and captures of Mafia bosses ending the mob once again. You're never going to defeat the Mafia, get over it. Leave it to a stupid page like Daily Mail to spout such nonsense.

yes, lol, the death of Messina denaro and the maxi-trial against the ndrangheta didn't mean the mafia is going to finish, who thinks this doesn't know what he is talking about...
