How trustworthy is this newspapers source that shared this? Killing Gratteri would be like shooting themselves in the leg , that would bring so much heat to 'Ndrangheta , killing him would bring much more problems than him being alive , i don't think they are that stupid to kill him now.

The news was given by Il Fatto Quotidiano which is a reputable source, they just didn't have the full thing yet

But still on Fatto Quotidiano, the leak was from the USA apparently and the Calabrians didn't agree...

Big op targets 'Ndrangheta mobsters 'embedded' in Rome (11)
Calabrian mayor among 43 arrested

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 10 - Police on Tuesday staged a massive operation in Rome and in other parts of Lazio and in the southern region of Calabria related to a probe by the national Antimafia Investigative Directorate (DIA) into the criminal activities of the 'Ndrangheta.
Police executed warrants limiting the freedom of 43 people, some of whom are accused of belonging to a Rome branch of the Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta that is embedded in the capital.
This section of the crime syndicate allegedly sought to gain control of legal businesses in sectors ranging from fish, bakeries and pastry retailers and the recycling of used leather and cooking oil.
In the Calabria operation linked to the probe 29 people were taken to jail and five were put under house arrest.
These included Antonino Gioffé, the mayor of the town of Cosoleto, in the province of Reggio Calabria.
Coldiretti farm group said criminal activity in the food sector ranging from pastry shops to fishmongers had risen to 24.5 billion euros a year.
In the Rome part of the op, police said the 'ndrina (chapter9 involved was run by two bosses who had got the go-ahead from the mother clan in Calabria, Antonio Carzo and Vincenzo Alvaro, both members of historic 'Ndrangheta families from Casoleto and Sinopoli in the province of Reggio Calabria.
A police wiretap caught Alvaro saying "we are a caravan to make war", police said.
In Calabria, top members of the Alvaro 'cosca' from Sinopoli were arrested including Carmelo Alvarao aka "Bin Laden", Carmine Alvaro aka "u cuvertuni", believed to be the chief in Sinopoli, and the local heads at Cosoleto, Francesco Alvaro aka "ciccio testazza", Antonio Alvaro aka "u massaru", Nicola Alvaro aka "u beccausu" and Domenico Carzo aka "scarpacotta".
The individuals arrested and placed under investigation said "we in Rome are an offshoot of down there (in Calabria)", a police wiretap recorded.
Police said some 24 companies, restaurants, bars and fishmongers in the north of Rome and in particular the Primavalle quarter had been seized.
'Ndrangheta has spread from its Calabrian heartlands to the rest of Italy, Europe and around the world, and is considered Italy's richest and most powerful mafia due to its control of the European cocaine trade from South America.
'Ndrangheta (from a Greek word meaning 'heroism' or 'virtue') once lived in the twin shadow of Cosa Nostra in Sicily and the Camorra in Naples.
While those two syndicates, notably the Sicilians, were feeding off the transatlantic heroin trade through operations like the infamous 'French connection', 'Ndrangheta was only just emerging from its traditional stock-in-trade of kidnappings in the Calabrian highlands.
It has since become a highly sophisticated global network with a chokehold on the European cocaine trade and control over swathes of its home turf where police fear to tread, Italian officials say.
As well as being the richest, 'Ndrangheta is also regarded as the most impenetrable of Italy's mafias, with its close-knit family-based organisation outdoing the Sicilian mafia in its ability to defeat police efforts to turn members into State witnesses.
The European law enforcement agency Europol has identified the 'Ndrangheta mafia as one of the "most threatening" organized crime groups on the global level, due to its "enormous financial might" and "immense corruptive power," with a presence in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Colombia and Australia, where 'Ndrangheta turf wars have gained headlines.
In Europe, 'Ndrangheta really only came into the public eye in 2007, when six clan members were gunned down on the midsummer Ferragosto holiday in the German city of Duisburg in a feud that began as a wedding spat in a small Calabrian coastal town, San Luca, in 1991.
A string of 'Ndrangheta-linked businesses have been seized in the last few years all over northern Italy, and especially in the affluent Lombard belt around Milan, and a Lombardy regional councillor was placed under investigation for buying votes from transplanted clans.
On the Italian Riviera, the town councils of Bordighera and Ventimiglia were dissolved for 'Ndrangheta infiltration in 2011 and 2012, the first non-Calabrian municipalities to be wound up because of such penetration.
In Rome, the Calabrian Mob has laundered money in a string of plum properties, as attested to by recent seizures police say are only the tip of the iceberg.
The biggest ever 'Ndrangheta trial got under way at Lamezia Terme in January 2021.
The trial delves into the activities of the 'Ndrangheta clans in Vibo Valentia and their links to the political, institutional, economic and rogue Masonic worlds controlling all aspects of local life in Calabria.
It is the biggest mafia trial in Italy since the so-called 'maxi-trial' of Cosa Nostra in Sicily from 1986 to 1992.
The trial, which is expected to last around three years, has over 300 defendants who are facing over 400 charges.
The defendants include local politicians, businessmen, police and other institutional figures accused of helping 'Ndrangheta hold sway over Calabrian life.
That trial handed down its first sentences on Calabrian mobsters and their clients in November.
In January 2015 police arrested more than 160 people in the biggest-ever operation against a northern business arm of 'Ndrangheta.
The op showed how far the one-time southern kidnapping gangs had infiltrated the economy of Italy's most affluent regions, including the thriving economy of Reggio Emilia around Bologna.
Other probes have shown the increasing 'Ndrangheta infiltration in the region around Milan, Lombardy, the region around Genoa, Liguria, and the region around Turin, Piedmont.
In February 2014 a major Italian-FBI bust showed that 'Ndrangheta was muscling in on the drug operations of one of Cosa Nostra's historic five families in New York, the Gambinos.
Before that, in July 2010, a massive police operation netted the head of the 'Ndrangheta and 300 others.
Domenico Oppedisano, 80, anointed the equivalent of the 'boss of bosses' in Cosa Nostra at a Calabrian shrine to the Madonna a year previously, was caught along with their reputed head in Lombardy, Pino Neri.
'Ndrangheta is so secretive that the replacement for Oppedisano is still not known. (ANSA).

Rome "province" of Sinopoli: the genesis
by Giuseppe Lo Re - May 12, 2022
The arrival from Calabria and the legitimacy of the place: "Thank you for the honor you have given me". Interconnection with the parent company but spaces of operational autonomy: "I want serious Christians"
'Ndrangheta, Reggio, Chronicle

"When we were there I told him ... I thank you ... I thank you for the honor you have given me." Speaking, intercepted, is Antonio Carzo who tells the moment of the "turning point" , the one in which he would have been authorized to set up a club in Rome with the approval of the "parent company" in Calabria. It is the so-called "offshoot" at the center of the double investigation by the DDA of Reggio and Rome which resulted on Tuesday in 77 arrests, of which 34 in the province of Reggio, to hit the 'ndrina Alvaro di Sinopoli and Cosoleto.

At the top of the Capitoline were precisely Antonio Carzo, son of Domenico called "scarpacotta", and Vincenzo Alvaro, son of Nicola called "u beccausu" . Under the spotlight of the investigators, an overall and ambitious plan for an important criminal expansion on Rome with an "autonomous path": from the control of commercial activities to the classic extortion, according to the most classic collection of rituals and affiliations.

"We are here, look how beautiful we are here" Antonio Carzo says that, although he had never been to Rome before 2014, he would have been able to obtain from "Crime" what the 'Ndranghetisti who have lived in the capital for many years had never been able to achieve. According to the investigators, "a territorial articulation of the clan was created in the capital", but with a distinction: "We do our own thing", explains Carzo, also making an explicit parallel with what happened in Ostia: "Like us here or there ... how the Spadas do their cocks, or not? ». And on the other hand, "you have opened a nice place ... you have a place here .." recognizes an interlocutor who is also investigated. In this case, we are talking about Francesco Greco, who provides a very clear key to understanding the diarchy with Vincenzo Alvaro: «Then you came thanks be to God ... the world is big ... it's bigger ...

The scenario would be quite clear: constant connection with "down there", respect for the rules and jurisdictional capacity with a lot of "court of 'Ndrangheta", but operational autonomy. Even in the choice of men. Because yes, we need to be inclusive "like the water in the fountain" towards those Calabrians who had been residing in Rome for several years and who belonged to historic 'Ndrangheta families, involving them in some way in the new venue, but on condition that they are "Serious Christians". To clarify this, always intercepted, it is still Carzo when he stiffens, not accepting external influences: «Last time Christians came to me from below. "But why didn't they come? No one who thinks that they have to come with me because the others send them ... They have to come to me because they want us others ... because they want them,

Giuseppe Ursino, 54, from Bardonecchia, was formally rearrested, Friday 13 May 2022, by the carabinieri of the provincial command of Turin.

Currently in prison, the nephew of Rocco Lo Presti, historical boss of the 'Ndrangheta , was arrested at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and on the order of a judge of the Turin court, for an attempted extortion aggravated by the mafia method.

The investigations were launched in September 2020 by the Carabinieri Investigation Unit of Turin.

According to the investigators, Ursino would have tried to regain, through threats and intimidation, the management of the former restaurant "Lettera 22" in Alpignano, whose license had already been subject to preventive seizure for the purposes of confiscation in the previous proceedings against Ursino himself , since it is a direct expression of the network of economic activities functional to money laundering and the economic sustenance of the mafia association.

Another man, with a clean record, also arrested, would have acted with him

German transport and logistics giant DB Schenker's Italian branch was put into special administration for infiltration by the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia Tuesday.
The branch, which employs 1,400 people in 37 offices and generates hundreds of millions of euros in turnover a year, was placed in the hands of administrators by a Milan court.
It was taken over after prosecutors found evidence of infiltration by the Calabrian Mob, Italy's richest and most powerful mafia, police said.
For the same reason, another firm, Aldieri SpA, was also placed under special administration.

'Ndrangheta, the request of the DDA of Catanzaro accepted: the Anello brothers move to 41 bis

The Ministry of Grace and Justice accepted the request of the DDA of Catanzaro and ordered the harsh prison of Rocco Anello, 61, and his brother Tommaso , 58, believed to be at the top of the homonymous clan of Filadelfia, in province of Vibo Valentia. The minister, at the request of the district anti-mafia Directorate of the capital, has in fact ordered the tightening of the prison regime against the two defendants, both involved - in July 2020 - in the investigation conventionally called Imponimento.

According to the investigators, it was the arms and drug trafficking with Switzerland , in collaboration with the Colombian narcos, that made Rocco Anello make the "qualitative leap" in the 'Ndrangheta , so much so that he was the first name on a list of 64 people ended up in a 1991 report from the Carabinieri of Catanzaro. A relationship, the one with Colombia, never interrupted, so much so that the last report of the Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria, drawn up after the attack on the offices of the Public Prosecutor of Reggio, in delineating the "geography" of the 'ndrine in the world, explains howin Colombia, the largest cocaine producer in the world, "the men of the ring clan are present",alongside the representatives of historical clans such as the Aquino and the Mazzaferro of Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, the Nirta di San Luca, the Morabito di Africo, the Molè di Gioia Tauro, the Paviglianiti di San Lorenzo. According to investigators, a very close friendship would also have united Rocco Anello with Damiano Vallelunga, the boss of Serra San Bruno killed in Riace on 27 September 2009, and also with Vito Tolone, considered the boss of Vallefiorita, who was killed on 31 January 2008. An alliance, the latter, that the investigators discovered in 1991, when a vast drug trafficking came out of Switzerland managed, in symbiosis, by men of the Anello clan, some Colombians and loyalists of the Vallefiorita boss.

They had attempted an extortion of 15 thousand euros against the owners of the company engaged in the construction of the niches in the cemetery of Cassano Jonio.

This is the 31-year-old Alessandro Cerchiara from Cassano , brother-in-law of the 33-year-old Luigi Abbruzzese, the 'Ndrangheta godfather of the "gypsies" captured as a fugitive in August 2018 and who married Cerchiara's sister, and Piergiorgio Siciliano, 40 years old from Amendolara but gravitating in the Cassanese area .

Both names and well-known faces in the local investigative circles, were taken at dawn today in the "kingdom of the gypsies", in the public houses of the Timpone Rosso district in the populous Lauropoli hamlet of Cassano Jonio.

The detectives of the Cassanese Arma conducted the investigations of the case, which lasted less than a month. The attempted extortion, in fact, as documented by the investigations, dates back to last April 28th.

When Cerchiara and Siciliano would have gone to the site of the cemetery, and, speaking with an employee of the company , they would have made explicit their extortion request. The two would have asked the worker to bring the "embassy" to his employers: 15 thousand euros of "protection money" to be paid in two "convenient installments".

“Illogical that De Stefano is among the” invisibles “of the ‘Ndrangheta”
This is what the Court of Cassation writes in the grounds for the “Gotha” ruling regarding the position of the lawyer Giorgio De Stefano, tried with the abbreviated rite and sentenced on appeal to 15 years and 4 months in prison.\
For the Cassation, the judges of the Court of Appeal were wrong to consider De Stefano “guilty also for the period after 2005 on the basis of conduct that is assumed to reveal his belonging to the secret component and which, however, being placed in the period covered as judged, they cannot be evaluated for this purpose “. “If the invisible structure – it is specified in the Cassation motivations – must be composed of subjects whose belonging to the ‘Ndrangheta is unknown to those who make up the visible and operational structure of the criminal association, in order to prevent the components of the invisible structure from being indicated as belonging to the criminal association from any collaborators of justice, it seems illogical to argue that Giorgio De Stefano could simultaneously be part of both the invisible structure and the visible and operational structure as head of the De Stefano clan “.

Leandro Bennato, a drug trafficker from the neighborhood of Casalotti, he also ordered the murder of 2 albanians close to Diabolik

Enrico and Leandro Bennato had grown up under the protective wing of Michele Senese, king of crime in Rome. For years he has been in and out of jail pretending to be mad, with the complacency of doctors and professionals, saying he speaks German and has mental disorders. He was very lucid, the joke lasts for decades and ends in 2013 when he is arrested for a murder.
The Neapolitans do business allied with the 'Ndrangheta. Again the holy mafia alliance that has taken Rome.

Cetraro, Guido Pinto miraculously survived an ambush few days ago. The 47-year-old Pinto, owner of a gym, was seriously injured . Wounded by a bullet fired from a Kalashnikov rifle. The man after surgery, is hospitalized in intensive care. His condition is serious.
The ambush in Cetraro aroused particular bewilderment because it was carried out close to the forty-second anniversary of the murder of the communist city councilor Giannino Losardo, one of the martyrs of the fight against the 'Ndrangheta in Calabria. The Tyrrhenian town, however, has undergone an escalation of criminal actions in the last two years…

Mario Serpa, boss of the historic band of the same name from Paola, died in unknown circumstances at the Parma prison. He was 69 years old.

Mario Serpa had been detained since 1983 because he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was then able to obtain the first benefits and in 2006 the semi-liberty to be able to work, then revoked after the most recent anti-mafia investigation "Tela del Ragno". In 2012 he was in fact accused of having reconstituted the paolano clan.

The criminal takeover of Mario Serpa, who died in detention, began after the killing of his father for a transversal revenge in 1979. At the time he was 26 years old. His gang killed dozens of people in those terrible 1980s, including innocents who refused to pay the bribe. For those crimes, Serpa paid the bill with justice.

Brazil extradited 'cocaine king' arrives in Italy
3 hours ago
ROME - One of the most wanted men in Italy, mob boss Rocco Morabito, has arrived in Rome after being extradited from Brazil. He was arrested there in 2021. Morabito, 55, known as 'the cocaine king of Milan', has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking, various media report.

The head of the mafia group 'Ndrangheta fled in 1994. Uruguayan authorities arrested him in 2017. Two years later, he and three other detainees escaped through a hole in the roof of the prison in the capital Montevideo. Police arrested him last year in João Pessoa, a port city in northeastern Brazil.

The mafia group 'Ndrangheta is one of the largest criminal organizations in the world, with billions in turnover mainly in the cocaine trade. They are seen as one of, if not the largest importer of cocaine in Europe. The Italian police described him as one of the world's best drug brokers. The public prosecutor in Calabria say that Morabito played a major role in the cocaine trade between South America and Milan. The Italian city acted as a distribution point for the transport of cocaine to Italy and the rest of Europe.

The money of the ‘Ndrangheta in huge pots underground: one million euros seized

The money of the ‘Ndrangheta in huge pots underground: one million euros seized
TURIN The money of the ‘Ndrangheta was hidden in huge pots that the bosses had buried in the garden of their homes. The discovery comes from the searches that police men carried out since the early hours of today, Tuesday 12 July, as part of a vast operation against organized crime in Turin and other parts of the country. Part of the clan’s treasure was found thanks to the use of metal detectors with which the agents scoured the ground around the houses searched. Thus they were able to discover the cauldrons loaded with money which, once brought back to the surface, revealed a real patrimony of banknotes and coins.

The investigation by the Turin Police Headquarters
There are 28 people against whom the policemen of the Turin police headquarters have carried out the precautionary measures issued by the judge for the preliminary investigations of the Turin court. These are twenty precautionary custody in prison, six house arrest and two residence obligations, issued for various crimes: criminal association aimed at international drug trafficking, multiple sales of large quantities of drugs (hashish, marijuana and cocaine), violation of the legislation on arms, money laundering, reuse of money, criminal proceeds, robbery and receiving stolen goods. The aggravating circumstance of the number of people over ten and the availability of weapons has also been contested.

The money circulated through the “Hawala” method
At the top of the group, according to investigators, is the 43-year-old boss Vittorio Raso, arrested last June 22 near Barcelona after a period of inaction. During the investigation, police officers confiscated about 800 kilos of drugs of various types, two pistols, three rifles, 12 kilos of explosives, hundreds of ammunition and one million euros in various denominations.

The investigative activity that led to these results began in October 2019, immediately after the declaration of the inaction of the one who later turned out to be the boss of the criminal group. The man worked in Spain, where he bought and resold large quantities of drugs, supplying the markets of numerous Italian cities. While on the run, the boss organized his criminal association, using it to distribute drugs purchased in Spain in Italy. The investigators of the Turin mobile squad quantified the alleged turnover of the organization in several million euros, ascertaining that this money was then circulated through the “Hawala” method (informal transfer system, based on trust and honor of the persons in charge of the money transfer). “Hawala” is a sort of underground banking system already linked in the past to systems of money laundering and financing of suspected terrorist networks.
The group also had the availability of numerous real estate structures used as warehouses, means of transport equipped with double bottoms with electronic access, as well as encrypted cell phones purchased abroad.
On 22 June the leader of the criminal association was also arrested in Spain under some European arrest warrants, and extradition procedures are currently underway in our country.
